Upcoming Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light DLC characters revealed

We've been promised some extra downloadable content for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and now some info has been revealed about what extra characters will be available for the Crystal Dynamics-developed action-adventure game. One of the DLC packs is apparently already in the game as a YouTube video of a PC hack shows that Kain and Raziel will be available. For those of you too young to remember these two characters were the leads in the Legacy of Kain fantasy action series that Crystal Dynamics worked on from 1996 to 2003 before becoming the custodian of the Lara Croft franchise.

The other character DLC was revealed in a "tweet" from Crystal Dynamics announcing that Kane and Lynch of the game series of the same name would also be included in a Lara Croft DLC pack. In fact the developer is asking its fans which pack (Kane and Lynch or Kain and Raziel) should be released first. We should get a (legal) download of the character packs before the end of the year. In the meantime you can check out the Kain and Raziel YouTube video after the jump:

Hitman developer hit with more layoffs

This year has been a rocky one for developer Io Interactive. The studio best known for its Hitman series as well as the Kane and Lynch titles is dealing with its second series of layoffs in 2010. Kotaku has confirmed the layoffs with a rep for Io Interactive's owner Square Enix, stating, "I can confirm that we have made some internal changes at Io Interactive which has regrettably resulted in the loss of some jobs." Square Enix previously laid off team members at the studio last March.

Square Enix would not state how many people were let go at Io Interactive although a Twitter message from 3D Realms' George Broussard claims that 35 people were affected. Broussard also claims that an unnamed game project was canceled at the studio. However these developments are not expected to affect plans for Io Interactive to release a new game in the Hitman series.

Report: Kane and Lynch movie stalled again

The on again-off again movie adaptation of Io Interactive's Kane and Lynch action game franchise is now reportedly off again. The Los Angeles Times reports that the movie version was supposed to start filming in October but now word is that the movie's planned director Patrick Alessandrin is no longer involved.

Now the producers of the long gestating movie at Millenium Films have decided to push back the movie's start date until early 2011 while they look for yet another director. Wayne Kramer, F. Gary Gray and Antoine Fuqua are all in the running but so far nothing is settled yet. Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx are still, at least at the moment, planning to play the title characters.

Game-based comics from Wildstorm to continue under DC Comics banner

The comic book industry is buzzing today on the news of major changes at DC Entertainment, the Warner Bros-owned subsidiary that includes both the DC Comics and Wildstorm Comics brands. Today it was announced that the comic book division will remain in New York while other aspects of DC Entertainment's business, including its PC and console game licensing group, will be moved to a new location in Burbank, California near Warner Bros' offices by the end of 2011.

One of the consequences of the changes is that the Wildstorm Comics brand will be shut down. The last comics under that brand will ship out in December. Wildstorm published and continues to release a bunch of game-related comic book adaptations. However those comics, which include current and near future titles based on World of Warcraft, Kane and Lynch, Assassin's Creed and End of Nations, will continue under the DC Comics brand.

Kane and Lynch 2 trailer shows off new DLC maps

Kane and Lynch 2 is pulling in a modest amount of cash, so the developers are hard at work pumping out everyone's favorite miniature additions. In this case, it's a 3-map, 5-weapon pack for $6, and this trailer gives a low-down of the goodies you get for the $6. Kane and Lynch has fairly decent multiplayer, so this trailer should be fairly interesting to anybody who already has the game. We love the look of the new maps, but the guns are nothing particularly special. Just another day in the life of Kane and Lynch!

Kane and Lynch 2 paid DLC now available on Steam

The recently released third person shooter Kane and Lynch 2 Dog Days didn't waste any time offering downloadable content for players. The PC version of the game has no less than three new paid DLC options which can now be downloaded via Steam. The biggest one is the Doggie Bag Pack which has two new multiplayer maps (Dockyard and High Rise) plus the Radio Tower map that was included as a pre-order bonus for GameStop purchase. It also has five new weapons and can be purchased for $5.99.

Two more smaller DLC releases are also available. The Alliance Weapons Pack adds seven new firearms in multiplayer modes for $2.99 while the Multiplayer Mask Pack adds eight new masks for players to use for $1.99. You can check out our verdict on the game right here.

Kane and Lynch 2 trailer robs some banks

Kane and Lynch may have been poorly received, but that didn't prevent the second game from releasing. While it's hardly the most popular game in the world - thanks in part to its supposed role in the firing of Jeff Gerstmann - Kane and Lynch had some interesting multiplayer. The return of the psychotic duo in Kane and Lynch 2 also means the return of the multiplayer shenanigans, and in case you are on the fence about it, here's a trailer straight from the developers about what you can expect. Well, it's a cutscene and doesn't actually show any gameplay footage, but it might spark your interest a little. The most curious thing is the person's presence with the robbers. Is it a documentary director? a robber? A random civilian? There are cases for all three.

Kane and Lynch 2 Dog Days PC demo available via Steam

As promised last week the PC demo for Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days is now available to download. The demo is currently only available via Valve's Steam service. The demo will allow PC gamers to try out a slice of the upcoming third person shooter from developer Io Interactive and publisher Square Enix.

Steam is also offering a 10 percent discount for pre-order of Kane and Lynch 2 before the game itself is released on August 24. As we reported recently, Kane and Lynch 2 for the PC will ship with Valve's Steamworks game development tools including achievements, leaderboards, and more.

Kane and Lynch 2 PC demo due out next week

PC users will get a chance to play a slice of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days next week. Publisher Square Enix announced that the PC demo for the third person shooter will be released on July 26. The demo to the Io Interactive-developed game was previously released for the Xbox 360 and is now available for the PS3 console.

The demo was actually released for the Xbox 360 console as an "exclusive" earlier this month, meaning that you had to have a special code to gain access to the demo. No such code will be needed for the PC demo version, however. The full Kane and Lynch 2 game is set for release on August 17.

Kane and Lynch 2 goes gold; shipping one week earlier

With publishers now going into the silly season of announcing delays for many of their previously planned fall games, it's a little different to learn about a title that is actually coming out earlier than planned. Today publisher Square Enix announced that is exactly what is happening with its third person shooter Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days.

The Io Interactive-developed shooter with the two very messed up protagonists was scheduled for an August 24 release date but today the publisher announced that the game has now "gone gold" and will be released one week early on August 17 for the US. Europeans will now get the game on August 20.
