Download: Dungeons Demo

In Dungeons, players design an underground lair to combat invading heroes and rival Dungeon Lords. This playable demo includes three levels, and completing them unlocks Survival Mode.

"A mighty hero stalks through a dark, dank dungeon making life miserable for hordes of pitiable monsters as he steals anything and everything not bolted to the floor. Been there, done that - about a thousand times? Then it is definitely time to switch sides and show that hero just who's who in the dungeon!

Assume the role of a mighty (and mighty evil) Dungeon Lord and create your own diabolical demesnes underground. Dim-witted goblin workers tremble as they await your orders and dig corridors and rooms into the rock at your command."

Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded now called Jagged Alliance: Back in Action

The Jagged Alliance turn-based strategy franchise has been threatening its comeback for some time and now a planned graphical remake of Jagged Alliance 2 has gotten a new name and a new US publisher. BitComposer Games announced today that the remake, previously known as Jagged Alliance 2 Reloaded, will now be known as Jagged Alliance: Back In Action.

The game will still feature the player controlling a squad of mercenaries in a series of hot spot missions. The game will be published this fall in the UK via Kalypso Media. Kalypso will also publish the game in Asia and other English-speaking countries while BitComposer will publish the title in other European countries.

Patrician IV Rise Of A Dynasty expansion announced

If you enjoy games that have deep historical trading features, then you most likely have already picked up Patrician IV. Now that 2010 strategy-sim game is getting an expansion pack that's due for release on March 31. Publisher Kalypso Media announced plans to release Patrician IV Rise of a Dynasty from developer Gaming Minds Studios.

There will be eight new cities added to the game to trade with and in addition to sea trading vessels players can now use land-based caravans to push their wares. The biggest new feature is the addition of a co-op trading mode for up to four players via LAN and internet. Players can leave and join multiplayer matches at any time as they help grow their vast Hanseatic trade organization and also battle on the seas.

Get free games with Dungeons pre-order on Steam and Impulse [Update]

Free games are always good in that you don't have to pay money to play them (of course the game itself could be bad but at least your wallet's safe). This week publisher Kalypso Media announced that folks who pre-order the upcoming fantasy strategy-RPG game Dungeons via the Steam service will get immediate downloadable access to a free title.

That game is M.U.D. TV, the sim-style game where you have to run a television studio. Kalypso released the game about a year or so ago. This is in addition to the extra content in the Steam version of Dungeons which includes an extra mission, exclusive in-game items and new maps in the game's sandbox mode. The game is due out on February 10.

Update: Impulse is also taking pre-orders for Dungeons and is offering a free copy of the adventure game Ceville to those pre-orders.

Feature : We go hands-on with The First Templar

When we first heard about The First Templar we were intrigued by the thought of a co-op themed historical action game. Then we heard that the game was being developed by Haemimont Games. This Bulgaria-based company had previously made historical strategy games like Grand Ages Rome and more recently revived the Tropico island dictator government sim series. Could this same team make an action game.

We got a chance to find out when we got a beta copy of The First Templar to play for ourselves. The game, to be published in March by Kalypso Media, puts you in control of one of two Templar Knights in the 13th century that are out to battle various evil forces, from rescuing ladies to taking out big lumbering beasts of men and more. You also are in the middle of uncovering a conspiracy that will lead to ... well, that would be telling at this stage.

Dungeons goes gold; download its theme song

It will soon be time to see how good of a bad guy you can be. Publisher Kalypso Media sent over word that its fantasy strategy-sim game Dungeons, where you play as a evil dungeon lord trying to trap heroes, has gone gold. The game is scheduled to be released in retail stores and via download on February 8.

To celebrate the game's completion by developer RealmForge, Kalypso has sent over the official theme song to Dungeons. It's not exactly the theme to The Brady Bunch. In fact think about the music for the movie The Omen before listening to it.

Interview: We chat with the lead designer at Haemimont Games about Tropico 4

When publisher Kalypso Media bought the rights to the Tropico game franchise from Take Two Interactive, some were skeptical that the long dormant "island dictator sim" game series could be revived. However in 2009, Kalypso and developer Haemimont Games proved the naysayers wrong with the release of Tropico 3.

The game got solid reviews along with an expansion pack, Absolute Power, in 2010. Later this year Haemimont Games and Kalypso bring us a new stand alone title, Tropico 4, where you will once again rule the Caribbean island nation as its "El Presidente." Big Download got a chance to chat with Boian Spasov, the lead designer of Tropico 4, as he tells us more about the game and how Chuck Norris figures into it.

Kalypso announces Steam release dates for Dungeons and The First Templar

Publisher Kalypso Media has a number of upcoming games due out in the first quarter of 2011 and today the company revealed specific release dates for two of them. One is Dungeons, the Dungeon Keeper-like strategy-RPG game from developer Realmforge. That game is due out on February 10. The other is The First Templar, the co-op themed action-adventure game from developer Haemimont Games. That game is scheduled for release on March 30.

In addition both games will be getting exclusive content if you purchase them via the Steam PC game service. There's no word yet on what specific content will be available on Steam.

Kalypso Media to publish Elements of War in March 2011

About a year ago it was announced that developer Lesta Studio was working on an RTS game called Elements of War. Not much has been heard of that game since then but today publisher Kalypso Media announced that it would be publishing the game sometime in March 2011.

Just a reminder: This game's biggest twist on the standard RTS game is the introduction of weapons that can create and manipulate weather and other natural events on the battlefield. That includes creating earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes. The game, set in the near future, will feature three different factions, over 40 different units, and a 12 mission campaign.

Dungeons trailer shows off a nostalgic gameplay revival

Dungeon Keeper is one of the PC gaming classics. it combines hilarious situations, wonderfully stylized characters, and interesting gameplay into a tight package that is still incredible. Kalypso is aiming to resurrect the franchise in much the same way they did with Tropico, and their latest trailer for Dungeons shows off some of the new gameplay. We can only draw two conclusions from it, though. First, the developers really like Dungeon Keeper, since the game looks almost identical (not that it's a bad thing). The second is that it apparently runs pretty poorly, because the trailer has noticeable frame-skipping throughout. Still, we love classic games like this!
