Tenacious D to perform at BlizzCon 2010

Blizzard tries to get a major musical guest to perform for the concert finale that ends every BlizzCon. For this year's BlizzCon 2010 event, the attendees will get to see the duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, better known as Tenacious D, perform on stage at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 22-23. The concert will also be broadcast as part of the DirecTV and streaming Internet coverage for Virtual Ticket holders.

Formed back in 1994, Tenacious D, the self-described "Greatest Rock Band In The World) has gained fame as a comedy music group with a hard rock appeal. It first got national attention thanks to HBO specials and followed it with two albums, a ton of live concerts and even a feature film, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. According to the press release the band's BlizzCon 2010 concert will feature "the debut of new, soon-to-be-legendary songs."

Host and games announced for Spike TV Video Game Awards event

If you have been waiting on the edge of your seat to find out who will be hosting this year's Spike TV Video Game Awards...well, you need to get out more. However, we can tell you that actor-funny musician-panda voice guy Jack Black will be taking on the hosting duties for this year's event which the cable TV network will broadcast live on Dec. 14.

Black's appearance as host is almost certainly timed to work with some world premiere game footage of the long delayed Double Fine title Brutal Legend (Black is one of the voices in the game). Other games that will have new footage shown at the event include the game adaptations of the movies Terminator Salvation and Watchmen. New footage will also be shown of Mafia II, the Illusion Softworks open world crime action game that we haven't seen in a long time in any form. More surprise announcements are supposedly in the works. As we have previously reported, Sims and Spore creator Will Wright will receive the first ever "Gamer God" award from Spike TV at the event.

Kung Fu Panda PC demo released

Jack Black's next movie won't have him playing a funny slob with a heart of gold. No, in the Dreamworks Animation film Kung Fu Panda it looks like Black will voice the role of a funny slob of a panda bear with a heart of gold. Oh, and he can (maybe) do some serious Van Damage if he feels like it.

Activision has had a long time game license with Dreamworks Animation to create games based on their movies (all three Shrek movies as well as Shark's Tale (which also had Jack Black's voice work), Madagascar and Over The Hedge). So it's a no brainer that an Kung Fu Panda game is in the works as well. In an unusual move, Activision has released a new PC only demo for the game well ahead of the movie's mid-June release date. In the demo you can control Black's character Po in a portion of the full game as he fights not just with weapons but also unique special attacks, including one called the Panda Quake. It sounds like a tasty dessert to us.
