Oddly named strategy game gets new title

Earlier this year Southpeak Games released Imperium Romanum, a historical strategy game series from developer Haemimont Games. Needless to say, the title of the original game is a mouthful so for the upcoming sequel, due for release in February 2009, it was decided to go in a much more simple direction.

European publisher Kalypso Media announced today that Imperium Romanum II now has a new title. It will now be called Grand Ages: Rome. Kalypso Media changed the name in order to launch a new and "....distinctive brand for all our strategy games which will be universally recognised and unique in the world wide game markets." Perhaps the publisher is taking some lessons from The Creative Assembly which has been using the Total War brand for all of its historical RTS PC games.

Imperium Romanum II announced

If you like your Roman Empire era strategy games (and who doesn't really) you can add yet another title to that growing sub-genre of games. This time its for Imperium Romanum II, the just announced sequel to Haemimont Games' title that was released earlier this year in the US by Southpeak Games.

The city-building game will feature 20 maps of historical cities and locations with over 60 building and over 50 units to use to build your fantasy Roman city. You will have the help of over 20 historical figures and you have to deal with a variety of economic issues and disasters like fires, earthquakes and the like. The sequel will also boast a new graphics engine for its visuals. The game will be released in March 2009 in Europe via Kalypso Media but there's no word on a US release date yet.
