Duke Nukem comic book mini-series coming in July

It's hard to believe that Duke Nukem never has had a comic book series devoted to him but comic book publisher IDW Publishing is changing that later this year. Starting in July it will release a four issue mini-series that brings The King to the four colored world. It's being title Duke Nukem: Glorious Bastard.

According to Comics Continuum, the comic is an all new story set in Duke's universe as he has to deal with "time-traveling Nazi UFOs, space pigs, and a hot French Resistance babe code-named the French Tickler." Sounds like it will be a typical day for our hero.

Crysis comic book mini-series announced

crysis 2With Crysis 2 due out next week, comic book publisher IDW has just announced that it will release a six issue mini-series based on Crytek's sci-fi shooter series. The first issue of the monthly series begins in June.

The story tells the story of what happened in between the events of Crysis 1 and 2 so we should finally know exactly what happened after the incident on the Pacific island. The comic is written by Richard Morgan who also wrote the script for Crysis 2 and will be drawn by Peter Bergting. IDW previously published a Dragon Age mini-series for publisher EA.

Dead Space 2 to spawn new animated movie and graphic novel

Electronic Arts went all out for the launch of the first Dead Space game in 2008, releasing a comic book mini-series and a DVD animated movie that served as prequels to the sci-fi survival horror game. For the release of Dead Space 2, EA is doing it again with a new animated movie and a new graphic novel in the works.

The graphic novel, Dead Space Salvage, will be released in December by IDW Publishing and will be drawn by Christopher Shy. It will tell the story of the Magpies who encounter the necromorph infested ship USG Ishimura. The new animated movie, Dead Space Aftermath, is due out on DVD in January 2011 and will tell the story of "how the Government sends an unwitting crew of people to get exposed to Marker shards."

First issue of Dragon Age comic released; will now be a six-issue series

The latest entry in the expansion of the Dragon Age game franchise has now been released as IDW Publishing has shipped the first print issue of the comic book series based on BioWare's fantasy RPG game Dragon Age: Origins. The first issue was previously released for the iPhone/iPod Touch. You can also check out the first seven pages from the first issue for free.

While the comic was first announced as an ongoing monthly series, IDW is now stating that the Dragon Age comic is now planned as a six issue series. The second issue won't be released until sometime in June.

First issue of Dragon Age comic now available early on iTunes

If you don't care for all of that old fashioned print stuff when it comes to comic books, IDW Publishing may be your company. The publisher is one of the leading comic book companies distributing their content online via iTunes which can be read on a PC or via an iPhone/iPod Touch. This week the company released the first full issue of their comic based on the Dragon Age Origins RPG from BioWare.

As we have reported before the comic is co-written by well known author Orson Scott Card. If you still like to buy comics at your local comic book shop the first Dragon Age issue will be available on March 31. However there will be a long wait for the second issue; it's currently set for release in June.

First Dragon Age comic still coming in March after all . . . barely

There seems to be a little mis-communication happening over at IDW Publishing over the release of the first issue of their Dragon Age comic. While their editor-in-chief Chris Ryall had told Big Download (via Facebook email) that the first issue, scheduled for a March release, had now been set for April, he's now backtracking a bit. His blog site is now saying the first issue will now be shipping to stores in March after all.

Granted it will be March 31 which is the last day of the month but he states that's still in their original time frame for the comic's release. However, it looks like his statement to us that the second issue won't be released until June will stand as IDW has not listed any more Dragon Age comics in their lists of comics scheduled for release in April and May. In the meantime he's posted up a sample of one of the first issue's interior pages on his blog site.

Dragon Age comic book launch delayed to April

A few months ago comic book publisher IDW Publishing announced a line of comic books based on Electronic Arts' games. That included plans for a comic based on BioWare's RPG Dragon Age: Origins. While the first issue was scheduled for a March release to comic book stores, Big Download has learned, via IDW's editor-in-chief Chris Rydall, that the launch of the comic has been delayed to April. Also, the second issue of the ongoing series will be released this June.

The comic is still expected to be co-written by Orson Scott Card who is working with co-author Aaron Johnston. The comic will have interior art by Mark Robinson and covers by Humberto Ramos.

Dragon Age: Origins comic starts in January; Orson Scott Card to script

The latest game-to-comics adaptation is due out in January from IDW Publishing as they have announced a new partnership with Electronic Arts to begin a new line of EA Comics. The line begins in January with the debut of a series based on BioWare's upcoming fantasy RPG Dragon Age: Origins.

EA will be doing the actual funding and editing of the comic book line while IDW will handle printing and distribution of the comics for both print and digital release (via iPhone and other outlets). Previously EA has worked with other publishers such as DC's WildStorm line (for Mirror's Edge) and Dark Horse (for their upcoming Mass Effect comic).

The Dragon Age comic will be a regular monthly series (not a mini-series) and will be scripted by none other than acclaimed sci-fi/fantasy author Orson Scott Card. Humberto Ramos will be the cover artist on the series. However story details and an interior artist have yet to be revealed.

American McGee's Grimm heads to comics in April

There's been a lot of games adapted into comic books lately and the latest such project that will get that treatment is the episodic PC game series American McGee's Grimm. Over at the official IDW Publishing blog site it has been announced that the comic book publisher will launch a five issue monthly mini-series based on the game starting in April.

You can see the cover for the first issue over on the right. As you can tell the series won't be adapting classic fairy tales but instead will give the American McGee-style riff on comic book genres such as superheroes. Other issues will spotlight funny animal comics, romance comics, western comics and even Archie-style teenage comics. The series will be written by Dwight MacPherson and illustrated by Grant Bond.
