Fallen Earth to be released September 9

An upcoming MMO title that hasn't gotten a lot of press is Fallen Earth, a post-apocalypse themed title from North Carolina-based Icarus Studios. The game has been in development for several years but today the company announced that Fallen Earth will launch on September 9 in both downloadable form and in retail stores.

Our sister site Massively has been covering the progress of Fallen Earth for some time now so head over their for more info on the title. The game itself is set in the Grand Canyon area of the US, making the title a mix between post-apocalyptic game and Wild West shooter. Our big question: Can Fallen Earth compete with two other MMO games making their debut in the same month; Champions Online (due September 1) and Aion (due September 22 and already generating lots of pre-orders)?

Fallen Earth alpha test begins

It's rare that outsiders get to try out what developers call an "alpha" build of a game (a build that can be played from start to finish but still has lots of bugs, features and content missing). Yet the team at Icarus Studios are doing just that with the alpha test launch of Fallen Earth, their upcoming post-apocalyse MMO

The dev team is using the Gamespot web site as a way to take sign ups for the alpha test and if accepted they will receive a keycode and be able to download the game client. The alpha test will run through early 2009 with the beta expected to begin testing in the first quarter of 2009.
