FEAR 3 trailer says hello to mother

While the Point Man and Paxton Fettel are brothers, that didn't stop the Point Man from putting a bullet in Fettel's head at the end of FEAR. Still, there are times when one should move on from the past and work together with what was once an enemy, and apparently that time is now for the sons of Alma. This trailer for FEAR 3 may not show anything especially stunning, but what it does do is creep us out. Perhaps it's the excellent sound design, with all its glitches and droning noises. If the trailer is this disturbing, we have high hopes for the game!

FEAR 3 trailer wonders about the feeling of fratricide

This trailer for FEAR 3 is not particularly informative, but it is certainly dramatic. Set on a helicopter, it shows Paxton Fettel communicating with the Point Man about the Point Man's mission from the first game. To put it in spoiler terms, he wonders what it was like to be on the giving end of fratricide, rather than the rather unpleasant receiving end. A red shockwave then fills the sky and cuts the trailer to black. Nothing particularly special, by it's still a well-created cutscene.

Dead Space 2 trailer begins a new chapter for Isaac Clarke

Those that haven't played Dead Space, or read any of the Dead Space material, should be forewarned: this trailer is one massive spoiler. It follows the entire backstory of Dead Space, right down the the starting concept of a mining ship that finds something horrific. It's an excellent recap, though, and hits all the major points of the original backstory, the first game, and the events that happen between the first and the second game. If you want a little perspective into why you are so insane in Dead Space 2, this is a good trailer to get your bearings with.

Insane trailer shows us... absolutely nothing at all

THQ and Volition have decided to show off their new partnership with Guillermo del Toro in a way which doesn't make us do anything except scratch our heads in bewilderment. The new collaboration is titled Insane (or inSANE) and was announced at the Spike VGAs. This is the trailer that accompanied it, and it doesn't exactly inspire confidence. No art, no gameplay, no remotely recognizable characters, and nothing remotely resembling a teaser keeps this trailer from really piquing our interest. It's just a bunch of stereotypically scary noises and obscured visuals, with the clear draw being Guillermo del Toro's name.

Dead Space 2 trailer explores a derelict station

Dead Space 2 is rapidly shaping up to be one of our must-buy games of next year, and this newest trailer only cements it even further. While a few trailers have hinted at the station that Isaac will be spending his time on, none have truly tackled the issue, and this one aims to give us a good look at The Sprawl. It does a fairly good, if heavily cut and jittery, job at showing off the newly infested city. Frankly, it's not too scary, but the ridiculous amount of awesome action sequences more than makes up for this. Besides, the first game wasn't scary either!

Dead Space 2 trailers explore the artistry of murder

Those looking to gain a better insight into the Dead Space 2 development process need not look any further. The art director for the upcoming titles has given some glimpses into the development process, with three videos outlining the processes and feelings behind Isaac's continued adventures. The first, above, talks about the multiplayer and how players interact with each other in the 4v4 competitive modes. The other two, after the break, discuss Isaac's characterization and the juxtaposition between horror and action gaming that the developers wanted to get across. All of the trailers are definitely important for anyone looking forward to Dead Space 2, and are a good watch regardless thanks to the gameplay footage.

Dead Space 2 trailer gets seriously creepy

Dead Space was not a game that fazed us in the slightest. Maybe it was due to our playthrough of Resident Evil 4 around the time it came out, or maybe our experience with sci-fi horror, but it just wasn't that scary. If this trailer for Dead Space 2 is any indication, though, the sequel is aiming to be far more unsettling. It's chock full of dark areas, unsettling people, glitches, sudden movements. The worst part, however, are the background vocals: the children's rhyme "Ring Around The Rosies." Don't watch if you are of nervous disposition.

FEAR 3 trailer explores the Almaverse

Alma's fractured psychic mind is the cause behind most of the disturbances in the previous FEAR games. However, the damage to reality was local, rather than widespread, leading to the visions and minor apparitions players are familiar with. However, in FEAR 3, Alma is losing it for real and showing off just what her demented, abused, destroyed mind can produce. The result is the Almaverse and this trailer. It shows off some of the new environments and gives brief glimpses at the monstrous enemies the player will be fighting, although the trailer is so dark it's really hard to tell what is going on.

Review: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

There are very few videogames that set us on edge through atmosphere rather than startles. Games like FEAR and Resident Evil can be scary, sure, but more because the game suddenly flings things at you rather than creating an oppressive, depressing, degrading setting. Developer Frictional Games tried to do so with Penumbra, and it didn't work out too well, despite Penumbra's status as a great game. Now comes Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and despite its generic-sounding title, it's quite possibly one of the most unique games we have ever played. It utilizes story tropes (such as the titular amnesia), physics-based gameplay, and a disturbing setting to great effect. It's quite possibly the only time we've ever been truly frightened by Lovecraftian fiction, and it serves as a good example of the polish indie developers can put into a game.

Amnesia trailer gives a taste of being prey

Frictional Games is best known for the indie darling series Penumbra, but they've been hard at work on a new game. Releasing in just little over a week, Amnesia: The Dark Descent follows an amnesiac who wakes up in a castle with no knowledge save for his name. As the game is quite close to launch, Frictional has released a new trailer showing off a chase scene between Daniel and an unknown force. predictably, he loses in the end. It's interesting to note that this is in-game footage, and as expected, bears a striking resemblance to the excellent Penumbra series. The minor touches, such as the heavy breathing and the splash of water after each pound, make it quite intriguing!
