Hitman movie sequel gets director but will Olyphant return as Agent 47?

While it didn't get the best reviews, the film adaptation of Io Interactive's Hitman action series earned enough money in the theaters and later on DVD to convince its movie studio Twentieth Century Fox to start work on a sequel. Now the second Hitman movie has found its director and is slated to being fiming sometime this fall.

The Deadline web site reports that Daniel Benmayor, a Spain-based director of commercials and two Spanish language movies, will make his Hollywood directing debut helming the Hitman movie sequel. However it's still unknown if the first movie's lead, actor Timothy Olyphant, will return as Agent 47. Olyphant is currently starring in the terrific FX cable TV crime series Justified and may not care to shave his head again and return to the Hitman franchise.

Movie producer talkes Kane and Lynch, Just Cause and Hitman movies

And you thought Uwe Boll had video game movies on the brain. Hollywood movie producer Adrian Askarieh also loves to turn video games into feature films and his first effort, the adaptation of the Eidos game Hitman in 2007, brought in over $100 million in revenues (even if it got mixed reviews from critics).

Our sister site GameDaily has posted up a chat with Askarieh who talks about his various upcoming movie projects which include the long-in-development movie adaptation of Kane and Lynch. Askarieh says that the film, after " . . . two and a half years of false starts, is finally going into production." Filming will begin in March 2010 and it still has Bruce Willis signed on for playing Kane. Another Eidos game property, Just Cause, will "shoot spring of next year." A Hitman movie sequel is in the works but Askarieh says its unknown if the first movie's lead, Tim Olyphant, will return, although he states, " . . . we'd love to have Tim if he wants to do the movie."
