Heroes of Might and Magic Online MMO announced

One of the most well known turn-based strategy games is about to head to the MMO space. Today it was announced that Chinese developer TQ Digital is working on Heroes of Might and Magic Online, an MMO that is said to combine the gameplay of Heroes of Might and Magic III with the graphics of the last PC game in the series, Heroes of Might and Magic V.

The game, which is licensed by Might and Magic's current owner Ubisoft, will have eight different factions to choose from along with 16 classes, over 50 different creatures and hundred of different campaigns. Closed beta testing for the game will begin in early May and you can sign up for the beta right now.

It's time for the last game we are going to cover in the Heroes of Might and Magic series. No, it's not Heroes of Might and Magic 4. Rather, we're talking about the original gangsta. The RPG-strategy hybrid that started it all. Heroes of Might and Magic may not have a lot of the later improvements that the series slapped on, but it just makes the experience that much more pure. Playing the first game is a reminder of just how much the series has progressed and how much we love roaming around wiht our heroes, smashing apart armies and towns. It may be old and it may be less complicated than its successors, but it's still amazing.

Rumor: New Heroes of Might and Magic game in the works?

Ubisoft took over the Might and Magic fantasy game franchise with the death of 3DO some time ago. Since then it has released a number of new games including Heroes of Might and Magic 5 (and two expansion packs) via developer Nival Interactive. Now the rumor mill on the Interwebs is rumbling that a new entry in the Heroes of Might and Magic series might be on the way.

Xbox360Achievements.org points over to a new job listing over at Gamasutra where they stated that Ubisoft's Shanghai offices were looking for a new lead game designer for "Heroes of MM". The story also stated that the designer would be working on a "brand new fantasy RPG title for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac." However the current Gamasutra job listing seems to have deleted any mention of "Heroes of MM" or the "fantasy RPG" aspect of the gig. Therefore this is still in the rumor mill section for now.

The Might and Magic series has always been a popular one with the PC role-playing game fans. However, while the main series is certainly good, it is the Heroes sub-series that everyone remembers with such fondness. Randomized maps, economics mixed with fantasy warfare, and some excellent strategic options helped boost it over the Might and Magic series as a whole. While Heroes of Might and Magic V has been out for a while now, it's certainly not considered the best in the series. No, that honor is reserved for the one and only Heroes of Might and Magic II. So let's take a look at just why it is the best in a great series.

GoG.com adds Heroes of Might and Magic for special intro price

GoG.com keeps adding and adding to its DRM-free library of PC games and today they have a new title with an extra twist. It's Heroes of Might and Magic, the turn based fantasy strategy game from developer New World Computing that was originally published by 3DO in 1996 (the Might and Magic series is now owned by Ubisoft).

You can download and play the game now for just $5.99 but there's the twist: that price is only good until the end of the day on Thursday, May 21. After that the price will increase to $9.99 so if you want to get the game on the cheap you just have a week to do so.

It's been a long while since Heroes of Might & Magic V: Tribes of the East released, but the developers at Nival Interactive have been hard at work on a huge patch to fix nagging bugs and improve the overall game experience. it looks like they haven't been wasting their time, since the patch comes in at 120 MB. The developers will continue to support the game and come out with more patches in the future. Let's hope that it won't take years to see v3.02.
