Review: Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway starts with a very long intro cinematic. It got to the point where we seriously started to wonder if there was going to be a game or if we should microwave some popcorn. However, the intros does its job in setting up the story, which is a fictional account of a platoon of American soldiers helping each other through the hardships of war. While there's plenty of action, bloodshed and explosions to go around - the characters and the bond they share is one of the most compelling aspects of the game. This is a huge achievement considering that many first-person shooter games, especially ones set in World War II's European Theater, are starting to look very much alike.

E3 08: Brothers In Arms trailer showcases human side of war

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway is an interesting game for a few reasons -- primarily its setting. While people are quick to knock World War II games, the latest Brothers In Arms focus on a battle that was historically unkind to the ally strategy is enough to forget we've seen it all before. The latest trailer for Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway also reminds us of another factor we forget all too often when playing games -- this happened. The characters themselves are based on the real men who fought for survival during Operation Market Garden and looks to pay homage to them and brave heroes who lost their lives during the epic encounter. Brothers in Arms movie in the works?

Given that this summer's new Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway will be flanked by both a novel (pre-release) and a history book (post-release), it's not too surprising that a movie might also be in the works.

Hell's Highway covers Operation Market Garden, a mission in which the Allies tried to seize a bridge in the Netherlands, which, in 1944, were under Nazi control. Colonel John Antal, who wrote both of the aforementioned books, says that the mission lasted ten days, but only eight of those days will be covered in Hell's Highway.

"Those two days that are not in the game, I made the story for the novel; we filled the gap," he told Eurogamer. "I think the novel will be a movie."
