H.A.W.X. 2 PC gets Open Skies DLC

While it took over two extra months for Ubisoft to release the PC port of H.A.W.X. 2 the publisher didn't waste time in releasing the first DLC mini-expansion to the modern flying action game. Open Skies will set you back $9.99 and is now available to purchase and download at Ubisoft's web site and at other various download outlets.

It comes with three new team battle missions for your dogfighting skills (Search and Destroy, High Altitute Warfare and Trigger Happy). It also comes with five new planes (F-4E-Phantom II, F-86 Sabre, Mig-15 Fagot, Mig-21 Fishbed, and Su T-50 PAK FA) and new skin for two other planes (F-22 Raptor and F-35B Lighting II).

Ubisoft admits to cancelling games in latest financial report

Ubisoft's latest financial report is the definition of the term "mixed". The France-based game publisher reported that revenues for the first six months of its current fiscal year (which ended on September 30) came in at 260 million euros, up 57 percent from the same period a year ago. However the company still recorded a net loss of 89.8 million euros for the time period compared to a loss of 52 million euros from the same period a year ago. Ubisoft stated it had lower than expected sales for its RTS game R.U.S.E. as well as the console version of H.A.W.X 2 (the PC version was released just a few days ago).

Ubisoft also said it took a one time 62.1 million euro charge for a reorganization of its studios which it said "resulted in the termination of certain projects". The report didn't name any specific games as being cancelled. In another part of the financial report it said there have been "team reductions" at some studios while others have seen team increases. Overall Ubisoft said it currently has 6,200 employees compared to a year ago when it had 6,400 team members

H.A.W.X. 2 for PC finally released via download

H.A.W.X. 2's PC port seems to be very much under the radar in terms of promotion from its publisher Ubisoft. Today, however, the modern day flying action game sequel is finally available to purchase and download via Direct2Drive, Impulse and Ubisoft's own online store. The game comes in a regular edition for $49.95 or in a digital deluxe version for $54.95

The game comes over two months after the console ports were released. It also seems to be a download exclusive since brick-and-mortar retailers such as GameStop and Amazon.com don't seem to have boxed copies available. However, you can also get a free copy of the game if you purchase a new graphics card based on Nvidia's GeForce GTS 450 or GTX 460 graphics chip.

Download: H.A.W.X. 2 PC Benchmark

While the PC port of Ubisoft's flying action game sequel H.A.W.X. 2 is due for release later this month, the publisher has gone ahead and released ... a PC benchmark based on the game (you thought we were going to say "PC demo, didn't you?). The benchmark runs an in-game scene from the title and then gives the player the frames-per-second that was generated from that scene.

But if you want to download and run the benchmark to see if H.A.W.X. 2 will run on your PC, be aware that Ubisoft apparently feels that even a simply benchmark tools has to have an "always on" PC connection. It requires a Uplay account and the Uplay launcher must be working in order to run this benchmark. This just shows that the publisher still hasn't figured out that its PC DRM set-ups are more hassle for consumers than hinderance for PC game pirates.

Report: H.A.W.X. 2 PC delayed again to mid-November

It's looking like PC players will once again have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the PC port of H.A.W.X. 2. Developer/publisher Ubisoft's flying action game sequel was supposed to be out on September 30 but now some reports suggest a new delay.

The reports come from message board posts on the game's official forums from people who have pre-ordered H.A.W.X. 2. They indicate that Ubisoft has sent them emails stating the game's release has been delayed for the PC until November 16. In addition the game's listing on the Steam PC game download site has changed from September 30 to simply "Fall 2010" The game was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles earlier this month.

HAWX 2 trailer gets smarter, faster, and more flashy

Tom Clancy may not have written a novel in several years, but that doesn't keep his insanely marketable name off of games based on "near future" events. HAWX is one of these, and the second one continues this tradition of politically-charged thrills mixed with high-speed explosions. Want proof? Just take a look at this launch trailer. It's so full of your standard political thriller stereotypes (terrorists, Middle East, modern weaponry, references to military figures), but as long as we get some awesome missiles and explosions, we're happy!

H.A.W.X 2 gets web-based 8-bit version

While PC gamers will have to wait a few more weeks to install H.A.W.X. 2 on their hard drive, publisher Ubisoft is making the wait a little less hard by launching a nice marketing web site for the upcoming flying action game. It's a Flash-based browser game that turns H.A.W.X. 2 into a full on retro 8-bit top down shooter.

The game itself is actually fun to play and Ubisoft has made it so the sometimes frustrating use of the arrow keys to control the flight of the plane is compensated by the fact that your plan can take more than one hit before it goes down. Hopefully the final version of H.A.W.X. 2 is as entertaining as its 8-bit version.

Report: H.A.W.X. 2 delayed on PC for a few weeks

PC gamers who were ready to get in their virtual cockpits for the PC port of H.A.W.X. 2 may have to stay on the tarmac a little longer. VG247.com reports that the release date PC version of the Ubisoft flying action game has been pushed back a few weeks.

According to the article the PC version has been delayed until October 1. Since VG247.com is based in Europe that likely means the US release won't happen until September 28 which is a three week delay from its previously announced September 7 date. No reason for the delay was mentioned. Big Download has emailed Ubisoft's US PR contacts for a confirmation.
