Direct2Drive to have daily price cuts on Atari-based games this week

The Direct2Drive PC game download site is holding a new daily sales event this week. For the next five days it will drastically cut the price of one Atari-published game per day. The first game under this event is Star Trek Online which for the next day will be sold for just $9.95, a 50 percent savings.

The other games that will be participating in the sales are:

Tuesday - The original Test Drive Unlimited game for 50 percent off
Wednesday - The recent downloadable game Haunted House for 75 percent off
Thursday - The fantasy strategy game King's Bounty: The Legend for 75 percent off
Friday - The shooter The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena for 75 percent off.

Atari announces latest financial numbers

Atari is the latest publicly traded game publisher to announce its latest financial results for the first half of its fiscal year. For the six month period that ended on September 30 the company brought in 29.6 million euros in revenue. That's compared to revenues of 68.5 million euros for the same period a year ago. Atari states these numbers are in line with its expectation as the publisher did not release as many games in the past quarter. The company recorded a net lost of 9.2 million euros for the time period which is an improvement of a loss of 27 million euros for the same period a year ago.

Atari stated it is modifying its guidance for the second half of its fiscal year, saying it now expects its current operating income to come in at break even or slightly negative. It also posted an updated game release schedule which includes a number of downloadable and online titles and the free-to-play relaunch of Champions Online.

Impulse offers up its own Halloween-themed PC game sale

Not to be outdone by GamersGate, the Impulse download site is now offering up its own Halloween-based PC game download sale with price cuts on a number of scary and semi-scary games. Many of the games on sale have had their prices cut by as much as 50 percent off.

Among the games on sale this week include the recent Haunted House remake for just $9.99, the Penumbra Collection for $10, Amnesia: The Dark Descent for $9.99. Plants Vs Zombies Game of the Year Edition for $7.49, Dead Space for $9.99, and the not-very-scary game Sins of a Solar Empire for $8.95.

Haunted House downloadable sequel released

First announced earlier this summer, publisher Atari has now released its sequel to its classic arcade game Haunted House. Developed by ImaginEngine, the new Haunted House is a downloadable title that can be purchased for $19.95 via Steam and also at Atari's own web site.

This sequel was developed as a top-down action-adventure game with the grandchildren of the first Haunted House's character searching for a magical urn inside of Graves Mansion. The game features 20 levels and also supports co-op play with a buddy as you collect power-ups like new weapons, items and more. Oh, and you will have to deal with all sorts of supernatural enemies; ghosts, skeletons and Lindsay Lohan (ok we made that last one up).

A modern remake of the classic Atari game, Haunted House, is probably far from a lot of people's minds but one is on the way. The game will be getting a major overhaul with 3D graphics, a story and new characters while retaining a the family friendly fun. Players should get ready to explore the new Haunted House in September.

Atari to release Haunted House revamp in September

Atari is dusting off one of its old game properties yet again. This time it's Haunted House, the arcade game that was first released in 1981. Today Atari revealed plans to release an all new game based on the property. The title will be released via digital download for the PC and other platforms this September.

Developed by ImaginEngine, the top-down action-adventure game serves as a sequel to the original title as the grandchildren of the first Haunted House's character head back to Graves Mansion to fight off all matter of monsters and spirits while also searching for the four pieces of the mystical urn that has to be reassembled. No price point for the game was announced.
