Santa Claus may be jolly, but he's also nosy and quite vengeful. He makes a list then checks it twice, and definitely spies on you to determine whether you've been naughty or nice. If you've been a pest in 2008, do all the good deeds you can before Christmas to avoid seeing any of these under your tree come December 25.

Grand Theft Auto IV PC coming to Steam; video editor explained

It looks like Rockstar Games is going to make it easier to grab their upcoming PC port of Grand Theft Auto IV than previously thought. The open world action game port will also be available to download via Valve's Steam service on Dec. 2, the same day the retail version is scheduled to ship to stores. The game is not yet available for pre-order via Steam so there's no word yet if there will be any pre-order discount.

In related news, the game's official web site has posted up some info on the PC version's exclusive movie editor. Hitting on the F2 key during the game will save the last 30 to 45 seconds of gameplay in the video editor. You can then open up the editor via your in-game mobile phone to change things like the camera angle, speed, depth of field and others. You can also edit in other clips you made in the game, add things like titles and transitions and then upload the video to the Rockstar Social Club site to show off your video to the world. Other members can then rate and comment on your video creations.

Did the ESRB reveal GTA IV PC?

All of Rockstar Games' previous games in their successful Grand Theft Auto action series were either released first on the PC or ported to the PC several months after their console releases. So rumors of Grand Theft Auto IV's appearance on the Windows platform are not exactly a surprise.

The latest evidence comes from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board web site which according to the Game-on-game.com web site had a listing for a Windows PC version of GTA IV on the site for at least a few hours before it was removed. While it's not clear whether this was simply a mistake or a premature reveal isn't clear. We, however, think we won't have to wait much longer before such an official reveal of GTA IV for the PC is made.

Did a prank reveal plans for GTA IV PC?

Ok. Before we go on, we want to emphasize that the following story doesn't prove at all that Rockstar Games plans to release a PC version of their huge best seller Grand Theft Auto IV. For all we know, this whole story could be a double prank. However, it's still kind of funny. Basically this blogger who calls himself "RockstarScammer" claims to have sent an email to the publisher. That email supposedly pranked Rockstar into believing the person had downloaded a free version of the PC port of GTA IV.

You can read the whole exchange at your leisure (and it's actually pretty hilarious) but the gist is that Rockstar's customer support may have tipped their hand in one of their responses, saying, "The PC version of GTA IV has not even been announced for release and is still in development . . ." Again this whole blog may be a prank but we couldn't help posting about it anyway.

Develop Awards finalists announced

Develop magazine has announced the finalists for its Develop Industry Excellence Awards 2008, prestigious accolades that "showcase the massive amount of games development talent found in Europe," according to Michael French, editor of Develop.

Given the massive success of Grand Theft Auto IV, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Rockstar North has received four nominations in the areas of Visual Arts, Audio Accomplishment, Technical Innovation and Best In-house Developer. Its sister studio, Rockstar London, received a nomination for Best New UK/European Studio.

"Be it digitally-distributed games, MMOs, first-person shooters or action-adventures," said French, "there's no area of the industry that hasn't been bolstered by Europe's diverse sector of games development companies in the past year."

A complete list of nominations and their respective recipients can be found on Develop's site.
