Grand Theft Auto III game trilogy finally shows up for Mac users

While Mac gamers have seen their prospects improve somewhat in 2010, the fact is that getting a native Mac port of a game previously released for other platforms can still take years to happen Case in point it the news today that over nine years after Grand Theft Auto III was first released the open world action-game is finally making its native Mac debut, along with its two immediate follow ups Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

All three games, which were ported by TransGaming using its Cider technology, are now available to purchase and download at GameTreeMac.com exclusively for the next 30 days with all three games costing $14.99 each.

Grand Theft Auto III games on sale on Steam this weekend

The weekend PC game sales have started to pop up and Steam is first out of the gate with a trio of titles that can be bought for almost next to nothing. It's the three games in the so-called Grand Theft Auto III open world action game trilogy from Rockstar Games.

From now until early Monday you can download and purchase Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto Vice City for just $2.49 each, a 75 percent discount. The final game, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, also gets a 75 percent price cut this weekend to just $3.74. You can also get all three games in a bundle for just $7.49.

Even more PC game sales start the week

Steam has already announced that this week will be a LucasArts PC game sales week but GamersGate also has its own week long PC game sales event. This week the PC game download site is offering deep price cuts on games related to pirates. Among the titles on sale for the next week are Age of Pirates 2 for $9.99, Tales of Monkey Island for $13.98 and Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island for $9.99.

Meanwhile, from now until 1 pm Eastern time on Tuesday, Direct2Drive has put King's Bounty: Gold Edition on sale for $11.25. The site also has a collection of Grand Theft Auto III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas on sale for just $14.95.

Classic Grand Theft Auto games coming to Mac

Three of the best selling and most influential games of all time will finally be heading to the Mac platform. In a new fan Q&A for Rockstar Games on the publisher's Facebook page, the company revealed that three older games in the Grand Theft Auto open world crime action game series will be coming to Apple's machines.

The games themselves include Grand Theft Auto III (first released for the PS2 way back in 2001) and its two follow-ups Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The Q&A said the games would be released "most likely later this year" with a promise that more info will be revealed later.

GTA: Vice City on sale via Steam for $2.50 until 5 pm ET

Earlier this week Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was one of the games in a Steam flash sale. If you missed it you still have a chance to get this true game classic for a super low price. From now until 5 pm Eastern time (2 pm Pacific time) you can purchase and download this title from Rockstar Games for the price of just $2.50.

It's our personal favorite of all the GTA games developer Rockstar North has made. It's got tons of stuff to do but more importantly it has that hip 1980's look and feel that can't be beat. It also helps that it has the best voice actor cast in the series as well.

GTA: Vice City on sale via Steam for just $2.49 until 4 pm ET

Wow. That's a low price! Yep, it's time to report on another Steam flash sale. This time its for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the 2003 released open world action game from Rockstar Games. The title, which in our opinion is the best of the GTA games, can be yours for just $2.49 from now until 4 pm Eastern time (that's 1 pm Pacific time).

Remember you can still get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas via Steam for just $4.99 until 2 pm Eastern time. And the Rockstar Games bundle remains on sale from now until Monday for just $42.49

Get GTA IV via Steam and get GTA: Vice City for free

The headline (almost) says it all, doesn't it? Valve's Steam service was already revealed as one of the digital download locations that folks could use to grab Rockstar Games' PC port of Grand Theft Auto IV. Now pre-ordering for the open world action game has begun and Steam users get an extra when they put down their money for the title.

If you pre-order the game before GTA IV comes out on Dec. 2 you can immediately download and play one of the previous games in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, for free. The game regularly sells for $9.99 via Steam. Vice City is considered the best game in the GTA III-based trilogy.
