Friday PC game sales are all over the place

No time to waste; there's a lot of PC game sales to report on today:

Wednesday's PC game sales are nice and neat

There's always some new PC game sales to report every day and hump day is no exception.

The Witcher 2 goes gold

At least one game due in May is sticking to its proposed release date. Developer CD Projekt has just announced that its long awaited fantasy RPG title The Witcher 2 has now "gone gold" meaning that the game is completed and is being replicated onto disks that will later be shipped to stores.

That ship date is still scheduled for May 17, a date that CD Projekt announced several months ago. The game, a sequel to the million selling The Witcher, will be released in retail stores in the US via publisher Atari as well as download sites. However the CD Projekt owned GoG.com will be the only place to download and purchase a DRM-free copy of the game.

Dungeons and Dragons Dragonshard now on GoG.com

The DRM-free PC game download site GoG.com has added yet another game from publisher Atari to its ranks. This time the game is Dungeons and Dragons Dragonshard and the 2005 released title from developer Liquid Entertainment represents the first time that a D&D game has tried to go the RTS game route.

While the game is mostly on the strategy side, it also has a number of action-RPG elements as well, especially as your party ventures underground to battle familiar D&D based creatures. You can get Dungeons and Dragons Dragonshard now from GoG.com for the always low, low price of $9.99.

Friday PC game sales are good

Good Friday is here and it's also time for some good PC game sales, most of which are just for today, although there is one sale that lasts through the weekend.

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive now on GoG.com

GoG.com continues to release classic games owned and/or published by Atari. Today the DRM-free PC game download site has added Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, the Wild West themed tactical-strategy game from developer Spellbound Entertainment that was first released back in 2001.

While Western themed games seem to be making a bit of a comeback, the setting wasn't as popular back when the original Desperados was first released. Set in 1881 in a fictional town near the Mexican border, the game features you controlling a squad of cowboys going after a gang who has been robbing trains in or near the town. Each squad member has some different abilities; for example one team member can use TNT well while another is equiped with Gatling guns. Desperados is now on sale on GoG.com for just $5.99.

Wednesday's PC game sales show up through a portal (ok, not really)

Hey, would you have paid attention to this post without the word "Portal" in it? Ok, maybe if you like saving money on PC games.

Star Control 1 and 2 added to GoG.com

Two classic space strategy games have been added to the DRM-free PC game download site GoG.com today in one bundle. The games are the first two titles in the Star Control series. The space strategy games, both released in the early 1990s, come from developer Toys for Bob and are still considered to be two of the best PC games ever made.

While the developer of the games was acquired by Activision some time ago the game series is owned by Atari. Now the first two Star Control titles (plus extras like a star map and soundtrack) can be yours for just $5.99.

While others maybe trying to unlock Portal 2 early that doesn't mean you can't still save some money by buying some other PC games:

More GoG.com announcements; hints at major publisher coming soon

GoG.com had a number of announcements today at its streaming press conference including big hints about upcoming publishers:
  • GoG.com is not only selling the only DRM-free version of The Witcher 2, but starting May 10 people who pre-order the game from the site can start pre-loading the fantasy RPG sequel before its released on May 17. GoG.com will be the only digital download service that will offer a pre-load of the game.
  • GoG.com's sales went up 163 percent in 2010 compared to 2009. No specific sales numbers were mentioned.
  • Later this spring GoG.com will get some new features including a new game downloader that will have multi-threading features for large downloads and an error checker that will check the download for corruption issues every 10 MBs. Another new feature will add private messages to the web site.
  • At the end of the presentation, five big publishers were shown on the screen; Electronic Arts, Take Two Interactive, Square Enix, LucasArts and Microsoft. The press conference said that one of those five publishers has signed a deal with GoG.com to bring 25 of its classic games to the site this summer. Two more of the above publishers are in talks with GoG.com to bring some of their own games to the download service as well.
