Gods and Heroes due to launch, finally, on June 21

An MMO game that was canceled before it was even released will finally be launching to the public very soon. Developer Heatwave Interactive has announced that the Greek mythology-themed game Gods and Heroes will open to the public on June 21. Pre-orders for the game are being taken at its official web site. Those who pre-order will get access to the game a week earlier and get a couple of exclusive in-game items.

Gods and Heroes was first announced way back in 2005 by Perpetual Entertainment. After being development for a couple of years the game was put on "indefinite hold" in October 2007. A few months later Perpetual shut its doors. Heatwave Interactive announced its plans to revive the game in February 2010.

Gods and Heroes taking beta sign ups

Today seems to be a day to reveal beta tests for games. Today the sparse web site for the upcoming MMO Gods and Heroes set up a way to sign up to beta test this long-in-development game. There's no word on what the beta will contain or when it will begin.

This game was first announced in 2005 by Perpetual Entertainment but was later put on "indefinite hold" by the developer in late 2007. Perpetual shut down for good in early 2008 and it seemed at the time the game went with it. In February 2010 Gods and Heroes got a new life as Heatwave Interactive announced it had acquired the rights to the game.

Feature: The Top 10 PC Game News Stories For February 2010

February was the shortest month of the year, as usual, but for some reason it was packed with news items of interest to PC gamers We saw the return of a legendary designer to PC gaming and the revival of a once thought dead MMO . We also saw the light at the end of the tunnel for a long awaited PC game but also heard about the consequences of a publisher's new way to fight PC game piracy

Today we look back at the past 28 days to pick the top 10 biggest PC game news stories and also pick a couple of honorable mentions.Let's start with the honorable mentions after the jump:

Gods and Heroes revived by Heatwave Interactive

An MMO that got shut down before its release by a developer that went out of business a few months later is now being revived over two years later. Heatwave Interactive announced today they have bought the rights to Gods and Heroes, the Greek-Roman mythology themed MMO that was previously in development by the now defunct Perpetual Entertainment.

First announced in 2005 by Perpetual, the game got its release date pushed back several times before Perpetual put the game on "indefinite hold" in October 2007 (even though the game was being advertised in PC gaming magazines at the time). Perpetual itself, which was also the first developer of Star Trek Online, shut down in January 2008.

It now appear that some of the co-founders of Perpetual got together again to form a new company called PlayGrid, a technology company for making MMO games. Heatwave Interactive has bought a source code license from PlayGrid, two game engines and all the rights to Gods and Heroes. There's no word on when the revived Gods and Heroes will launched. Our sister site Massively has posted up a brief Q&A with Heatwave on the acquisition.

Feature: Neverware -- Cancelled PC Games Part Two

And the carnage continues: Last week we presented a feature gallery that looked at a lot of PC titles from the past that were first announced (sometimes to massive hype) and then for one reason or another failed to show up on your favorite store shelves. But we aren't done yet...not by a long shot.

In part two of our look at the games that never will be, we have got not one, not two but three Star Trek games that won't see the light of day. However this article concentrates on the many, many MMO titles that were announced but didn't make it to going live. Some of them were in beta testing before the decision was made to pull the plug. Which ones are they?
