Ghostbusters multiplayer movie crosses the streams

While Atari has pulled out of exhibiting at E3 next month they are still planning to publish the long awaited Ghostbusters game later in June for the PC in North America (Europeans have to wait until later). Today GameTrailers debuts a new movie that shows of the multiplayer action in the game.

While Terminal Reality handled the single player portion of the Ghostbusters game it was multiplayer game specialists Threewave Software that created the multiplayer modes. The trailer shows off the fact that the game will allow you to play as any of the Ghostbusters team in co-op style multiplayer against AI ghost enemies so your dreams of playing as Dr. Peter Venkman can now be fulfilled. Look for the final version to be released on June 16.

PC version of Ghostbusters delayed in Europe; still set for June in US

And the topsy turvy publishing duties of the Ghostbusters game continues. The continuation of the comedy action movie series was first announced by Vivendi Games, and then picked up by Atari after the newly merged Activision Blizzard decided they didn't want it anymore. Now Europeans will deal with another publisher for the game, Sony.

In a very last minute decision, Sony (who actually owns the Ghostbusters franchise) has finally figured out that, hey, maybe they can directly publish the game themselves . . . at least in Europe. Sony will now publish the PS2 and PS3 versions of the Ghostbusters game this June, with the PSP version due out this autumn. And what about all the other platforms, including the PC version? While details are vague, MCV reports that Atari will publish the game for the rest of its planned platforms later this year. Atari has sent over a press release confirming that the game will still be released for the PC in the US on June 16.

New Ghostbusters screenshots are full of slime

This June we finally get the Ghostbusters games that (hopefully) we have been waiting for since the original movie came out. Developer Terminal Reality and publisher Atari sent out a number of new screenshots for the game that we have added to our ever growing gallery.

These are some of the first screenshots we have seen that show the main Ghostbusters team fairly clearly in the shots. Venkman is spraying some slime around in the above shot and other screenshots show off Spengler and his hair (which is almost a full character in of itself). Hopefully the game will play as good as it looks at this stage.

Ghostbusters game on June 16 alongside new Blu-Ray movie edition

The long awaited Ghostbusters game now has a solid release date and it looks like the Terminal Reality- developed title will be getting a lot of promotion from its owners Sony. The game is now due for release on June 16. It's also the same day Sony will release the Blu-Ray version of the original 1982 comedy action film, according to The Digital Bits web site.

Originally due for release last fall by publisher Vivendi Games, the Ghostbusters game was pushed out by Activision Blizzard after they bought Vivendi Games' catalogue. However Atari has now picked up the publishing duties for the game which serves as a de factor Ghostbusters III. Can the game live up to some already high expectations? We should know in about five months.

Ghostbusters game now at Atari?

Thanks to the Activision-Blizzard merger a few months ago several games from the now defunct Vivendi Games found themselves without a home and one of them was the highly anticipated Ghostbusters. Now one of the creators of the franchise, Dan Aykroyd (the guy on the right) may have revealed the game's new publisher.

Kotaku reports that Aykroyd, speaking to a Dallas radio station, stated that the game had now been picked up by Atari and is now slated for a release sometime in 2009. Aykroyd co-wrote the script to the game which reunites nearly everyone involved in the massive comedy movie series. So it looks like we may be putting on our proton packs in the coming months.

On Ghostbusters' non-appearance at PAX

If you went to Penny Arcade Expo a little over a week ago you got some badge lanyards promoting the upcoming Ghostbusters video game, even though that now former Vivendi Games title is in limbo thanks to the Activision Blizzard merger. So what happened. According to Variety's gaming blog it was just a matter of bad timing.

Vivendi Games bought the rights to the PAX badge lanyards way back in January and actually delivered them to PAX in June, two months before PAX 2008 began. Just a few weeks before the show the Activision Blizzard merger became official and the new company decided it didn't want to publish the Ghostbusters game after all, leaving PAX with advertising a game that is currently "between publishers". As PAX head man Robert Khoo stated, ""We didn't have much of a choice as finding an alternate lanyard provider, so we just ran with it." The game is still expected to be released sometime in 2009 but a new publisher has yet to be announced.

More gaming panels at San Diego Comic-Con revealed

Earlier this week we reported on the first gaming panel programming that was announced for the first day (Thursday) for the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con on July 25-28. Now the convention's web site has revealed the panel programming for the rest of the show and Friday and Saturday seem to be packed with game and game related events (Sunday seems to be free of gaming related panels).

On Friday convention attendees can go to panels about Midway's fighting game Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe, the upcoming MMOs Stargate Worlds and DC Universe Online, and the upcoming Ghostbusters game (with actors Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson scheduled to attend). There will also be a World of Warcraft panel and the big Star Wars panel will have segments on the upcoming LucasArts Clone Wars and The Force Unleashed game titles. Capcom will hold a panel on how to break into the game industry and there will also be a Penny Arcade panel. There will also be a panel on the upcoming movie adaptation of Prince of Persia (with the game's original creator Jordan Mechner scheduled to attend) and a panel on the upcoming CGI movie Resident Evil: Degeneration.

On Saturday, Comic-Con will hosts a Telltale Games panel where the creators will announce plans for a third episodic game series to join their Sam and Max and Strong Bad series. A Warhammer Online panel will also be held and THQ will host a panel on Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II and Deadly Creatures. Cliff Bleszinski and Peter Molyneux will attend a panel to talk about Gears of War 2 and Fable 2, respectively. EA will host a Dead Space panel and Capcom will also host a Bionic Commando panel at the show.

If you haven't bought your tickets for Comic-Con yet, you are out of luck if you want the four-day pass or one-day passes for Friday and Saturday. Some tickets for Thursday and Sunday are still available for purchase.
