Game Developers Conference executive director departs

The long time director of the Game Developers Conference is heading out to do other things. Gamasutra (owned by GDC's parent company Think Services) has revealed that Jamil Moledina is leaving his position. The article gives the good old-fashioned vague reason of wanting to "pursue other interests" as the reason for his departure.

After serving as editor-in-chief of Game Developer magazine, Moledina took over as executive director of GDC in 2005 and became a very public advocate of the game industry. While no replacement was named, Meggan Scavio will continue as Event Director for GDC; she has worked with the conference for the past eight years.GDC 2009 will take place in San Francisco on March 23-27.

Submissions open for 2009 Independent Games Festival

If you are an independent game developer looking for exposure for your title, there's no better way to do it than entering the Independent Games Festival. Today the organizers of the IGF announced that submissions are now open for the 2009 edition of the festival. This will be the 11th annual edition of the IGF which in the past has awarded cash prizes to such acclaimed games like Everyday Shooter, Audiosurf and World of Goo.

The deadline to submit games to the 2009 IGF is November 1 for the main competition and November 15 for the student competition. The awards will be given out on March 25 at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Over $50,000 in cash prizes will be given out in several categories, including the new Innovation Award. The big one remains the Seumas McNally Grand Prize where one game's dev team will receive $20,000.

GDC Game Career Seminar returns to E For All Expo 2008

IDG World Expo continues its trickle of news for the upcoming 2008 edition of the E For All Expo. The consumer gaming event, scheduled to be held October 3-5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, announced earlier this week that Microsoft will be the event's first exhibitor. Now they have announced they are teaming up once again with the Game Developers Conference to hold the GDC Game Career Seminar on October 3.

The seminar, which was held last year at the first E For All event, will once again offer people a way to network and learn more about entering the games industry through panels with industry professionals and other events. People who attend the GDC Game Career Seminar wil get a free one day pass to attend E For All 2008. IDG still has not revealed the ticket prices to attend E For All Expo 2008 nor have they opened up the registration process.
