Dungeon Siege III gets pre-order bonuses and May 31 US release date

Square Enix has now confirmed that the US release date for Dungeon Siege III will be on May 31, a few days after the next game in the fantasy action-RPG series shows up on European shores on May 27. More importantly, a number of retailers have announced their own pre-order incentives for putting your money down early to get the game from developer Obsidian Entertainment.

Perhaps the coolest pre-order incentive is if you get the game via the Steam download service. Those folks will get free single player versions of both previous Dungeon Siege games (developed by Gas Powered Games) for free. Pre-orders at GameStop get two exclusive in-game items (Burning Band of Scorch and Talisman of the Grand Mage) while Amazon.com pre-orders get the Bite of the Arakun in game item and Best Buy pre-orders get the Sacred Heart of the Legion in-game item. Wal-Mart pre-orders will get a mini-strategy guide for the game along with a Dungeon Siege mini-comic produced by Dark Horse Comics.

Dungeon Siege III gets May 27 Europe release date

While we are still waiting on the official US release date for Dungeon Siege III, publisher Square Enix has sent out word today that European countries will be getting the upcoming fantasy action-RPG sequel on Friday, May 27. If history repeats itself, that should mean that US gamers can expect the Obsidian Entertainment-developed game on May 24.

Dungeon Siege III is just the latest game to announce a release date for the May 2011 period. It joins an already crowded list of games that are also due out that month including F.E.A.R. 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Red Faction Armageddon, Brink, and The Witcher 2.

Awful Dungeon Siege movie gets Uwe Boll-directed sequel; ditches "Dungeon Siege" from title

In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale hit theaters with a massive thud back in January 2008. The film, based extremely loosely on Gas Powered Games' action-RPG series, only made $10 million worldwide in theaters compared to its budget of about $40 million. Oh, and it was directed by Uwe Boll.

So with all of that, there should be no risk of Boll making a sequel, right? Wrong. Apparently In The Name Of The King 2 (ditching the Dungeon Siege title completely) will start filming with Boll again in the director's chair in 2011. Bloginity reports that Dolph Lundgren has the "honor" of playing the lead; a modern day man who gets somehow sucked back into time but is placed 50 years after the events of the first film. Except that he finds out he was actually the son of the character Jason Statham played in the first movie and then sent forward in time to escape some evil and .... oh, we already have a headache thinking about it.

Kings and Castles to get monthly DLC updates; perhaps microtransactions

Kings and Castles' developer video blogs have been on hiatus for a little while now but that doesn't mean the upcoming fantasy RTS title from developer Gas Powered Games is on hiatus as well. In a recent interview with the IGDA Newsletter, Gas Powered's head man Chris Taylor talks about his plans for the title.

Specifically, Taylor states that after Kings and Castles is released, the plan is to offer players regular monthly DLC updates Taylor says their plan is to "take the downloadable content model to all new levels.". In fact Taylor says the game might also support microtransactions as well. Taylor also hints that Gas Powered has other games in the works that have yet to be announced.

Kings and Castles video blog to take a little break

It's been 35 straight weeks since developer Gas Powered Games announced they would be doing a weekly video blog covering the development of its RTS game Kings and Castles. Since then we have been treated to videos of chickens, nuts, exploding team members and most importantly seeing some glimpses on how the game was being made by its development team, week in and week out.

This week's video blog is going to be the last one, according to Gas Powered's head man Chris Taylor. Not the last one forever and ever; it's just taking a break for a little while as Kings and Castles ends its pre-production stage and prepares to enter into full production. The video does say at the end we will see some outtakes from previous videos during this break but for now it looks like Gas Powered is putting the cone of silence over the game's development.

Demigod on sale for just $5.99; community tournament to be held

If you want to get one of the more underrated games of 2009, now's your chance. From now until October 17 you can purchase and download Demigod, the fantasy RTS-action game from developer Gas Powered Games and publisher Stardock, for just $5.99 via Impulse.

If you decide that you like the game after playing it you may want to consider entering into a Demigod community run online tournament. This is the second such tournament for the game run by Demigod fans. Registration is already open and will close on October 15. The tournament itself will be held on October 16 with a cash prize for the final winning team. You don't have to pay anything to participate in the tournament but the organizers are taking donations (kind of like church).

Latest Kings and Castles video blog is full of fan art and barrels

It's Saturday morning which means its time for yet another video blog from the fine folks at Gas Powered Games. The team continues to work on its upcoming fantasy RTS game Kings and Castles but for the first part of the video celebrates the fans of the game.

Specifically we get to seem some artwork sent in by fans to the Gas Powered offices that are inspired by Kings and Castles (with some references to the video blog's trademarks as well). On the game development side we see some multiplayer testing, some map work that looks terrific and the creation of some barrels. You know; the usual.

Supreme Commander 2 dev diary discusses new strategies

Supreme Commander 2's DLC has been released this week, and to commemorate the release, the folks at Gas Powered Games have released another developer diary. This one in particular covers the additions and changes to Supreme Commander 2's units through the DLC. In doing so, both programmers and testers detail their favorite strategies, most used new units, and some flybys of the new maps. There's also a cameo by Chris Taylor at the end, although it is in voice only. If you want a good low-down of the new tactics and units available, this diary will give you a better look than any brief trailer.

Supreme Commander 2 Infinite War Battle Pack DLC released on Steam

As promised, developer Gas Powered Games and publisher Square Enix have released a DLC mini-expansion pack for its recent sci-fi RTS game Supreme Commander 2. The Infinite War Battle Pack DLC is available to download now via Steam for $9.99.

While there's no new single player additions, the DLC contains 10 new multiplayer maps (eight maps plus two more that are double the size of the regular maps). There are also a number of additional units for the game's three factions. Each faction also gets some additional upgrades and boosts. You can check out the extensive list of all the new additions in the DLC after the jump:

Kings and Castles' latest video blog is about trees, maps and a contest

If for nothing else, the latest weekly video blog for Kings and Castles is noteworthy for the first few seconds of footage which we won't spoil here. The rest of the episode takes a look at more development of the upcoming fantasy RTS game from developer Gas Powered Games.

One section takes a look at the tech tree for the game but most of the episode checks out some map making. One of the map looks a little bit like a golf course, especially if the camera is pulled back. We also see some neat unit formation path finding in the map. Finally, there's even a contest for those of you who are artistically inclined so be sure to watch all the way to the end.
