GameTap dealing with game download issues; insists it's sticking around

It looks like users of the GameTap PC game subscription-download service have been having some issues getting some of the service's library of titles to download correctly. Posts on the GameTap message boards have stated that a "Error 4100" message pops up when certain games are downloaded.

Our sister site Joystiq contacted GameTap and a rep for the company told them the issues were due to the fact that the games in question use technology "that is no longer in use when packaging new games". It added, "We have also started during the summer to upgrade our back catalog with the new technology." That process should be completed by the end of this month. Some speculated that the tech issues were due to a possible shut down of GameTap but the company rep denied this, stating "We are not ceasing our operations in the US."

Borderlands on sale this weekend at Steam and Direct2Drive

If for some strange reason you haven't picked up a copy and played Borderlands yet, there's not much of an excuse anymore. Gearbox Software's mix of first person shooter and RPG is on sale this weekend over at Steam and Direct2Drive.

The Steam sale lets players get a 50 percent discount on the original game, reducing its price to just $24.99. This also applies to the game's four-pack deal. From now until Monday you can get four digital download copies of the game for a mere $74.98. The Direct2Drive sale also has Borderlands.on sale for the same price as Steam but they also have put the Borderlands Triple Pack Bundle (with the original game and the first two mini-expansions) on sale for just $44.95.
