First details on Telltale Games' Jurassic Park game surface

While developer Telltale Games has just started on its five chapter Back to the Future episodic game series, the team is also still working on its previously announced Jurassic Park game. The new Game Informer magazine has the first concrete info on the game and the Bleeding Cool site has some of the details from the mag's article.

The game's storyline takes place at the same time as the first movie but through new characters (most of the characters in the movie will be off-screen). We will get to see all of the dinos from the movie along with an unnamed new creature who likes to hunt at night. Unlike most of Telltale's previous games which have a point-and-click adventure game design, the Jurassic Park game will be more action oriented although the action sounds like it may have an on-rails design. The five part game series is due to come out this spring for PC and Mac, most likely soon after the Back to the Future game ends.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim details from Game Informer mag pop up

The new print issue of Game Informer magazine have begun to show up in subscriber's mailboxes and as such info on the issue's cover story of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim have started to pop up on the interweb (that of course includes scans of the issue pages which is frowned upon in these parts).

As usual someone on the NEOGaf message boards have checked out the issue and posted up a number of the important details from the article that has the first real preview of the upcoming RPG sequel from Bethesda Softworks. Just a few of the preview points include the option for dual wielding; both hands of your character can now be used for weapons and magic. There's also no class selection for your character at the beginning of the game. The more times you use skills the more each skill levels up and contributes to your character's overall level. The story itself takes place over 200 years after the events of The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion where dragons are showing back up and your character has to take out the dragon god. All in all it's going to be a long wait before this game comes out on November 11.

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim's Game Informer cover has language puzzle to solve

As promised, Game Informer has now released the cover image for its exclusive first reveal of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim in the latest issue of its print magazine. However the back of the mag contains what you see above; some strange looking letters. In fact its a new language created for the upcoming RPG by developer Bethesda Game Studios. It's also the same language that you heard in the background in the game's teaser trailer last December.

But what does that message on the back say? Game Informer has given out some clues as to how one can translate the language into English. The final result should reveal the game's main villain as well as other story clues about the title ... or you could wimp out and just wait for someone else to post the solution on the net. Your call.

Game Informer to get first preview of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

If you want the first detailed preview of the just revealed RPG The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, look no further than next month's Game Informer magazine. The biggest such print mag for games will have Bethesda Game Studios' latest effort as its cover story for the February 2010 dated issue. The magazine will ship to subscribers in early January and the official cover reveal will be made on Game Informer's web site on January 6. In the meantime the current issue of the magazine has a four page article that looks back at the history of the Elder Scrolls game franchise.

The magazine has had a long history of having the first previews of upcoming games from the studio, including previous cover stories for The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion and Fallout 3. In related news publisher Bethesda Softworks issued the official press release for Skyrin, and confirming the (not surprising) news that the game will indeed be released for the PC.

Lara Croft's next game getting a teaser?

Lara Croft's fans were helped out with this year's release of the downloadable top down game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. However it was also under understood that there would be a full blown retail game in the long running action-adventure game series at some point.

Now some are speculating that a teaser ad and web site are giving us a hint that the next game would be officially revealed in Game Informer magazine. A two page spread from the current issue scanned over at NeoGaf shows a wrecked ship and the words "A Survivor Is Born" with a cover reveal scheduled for December 6. There also a web site, asurvivorisborn.com, with the same info minus the ship. All of this might hint about not just the next Tomb Raider game but that it will also be a Batman Begins-style reboot for the series.

Valve/DOTA game reveal tomorrow via Game Informer? [Update]

It looks like Wednesday is going to be the day that we get the first real details about Valve's mysterious Defense of the Ancients game project. The official DOTA web site has posted up a note from "IceFrog", the current project head of the popular fantasy-themed WarCraft III mod. He stated that "Game Informer dropped by the office last week" to check out what his team at Valve has been working on. IceFrog added, "They are going to post an article about it tomorrow on their website." This seems to be confirmed by a Twitter post by Game Informer editor Andy McNamara who states, "Tomorrow we have a story. A really kick ass one. You will hear more soon."

Just over a year ago it was revealed that "IceFrog" had been hired by Valve to work on a new project that he hinted would please Defense of the Ancients players.. Earlier this summer Valve filed a trademark claim for "DOTA". This particular move update two former Defense of the Ancients developers,
Steve "Pendragon" Mescon and Steve "Guinsoo" Feak, who felt that "DotA name should remain the property of the community at-large, as it always has." The duo, who now work at Riot Games on League of Legends, later filed for the trademark to secure the Defense of the Ancients name.

Update: Game Informer's web site has now confirmed the reveal of the new Valve project.for Wednesday.

BioShock Infinite covers for Game Informer magazine are old fashioned

BioShock Infinite may not be due for release until 2012 but that fact isn't stopping Game Informer from doing something unusual for the upcoming cover story for the Irrational Games-developed first person shooter. The print magazine will be whipping up three collectible covers for the game.

But as you can see, that's not the only thing that's special about the BioShock Infinite covers. Game Informer worked closely with Irrational Games to design the look and layouts to make them look like magazines from the turn of the 20th century, where the game takes place. The above cover design also gives us our first real clear glimpse of the "Handyman" character that was shown in the shadows of the game's teaser trailer. You can bet that this issue will fly off the shelves when its released later this month.

Rumor: Telltale Games making Jurassic Park episodic game series?

If the rumors about the new Game Informer magazine are true, the next set of episodic games from developer Telltale Games could get loud. According to multiple reports on the interwebs, the new print issue of Game Informer reports that Telltale is developing an episodic adventure game series based on the Jurassic Park franchise for multiple platforms.

Yes, the tale of genetically revived big lizards created by the late Michael Crichton in his novel and then turned into a huge film franchise by Steven Spielberg could getting another shot in the games genre. Previous games based on Jurassic Park have been less than stellar. Indeed one of the worst games ever made happens to be Jurassic Park Trespasser which pretty much was unplayable.

When Big Download contacted Telltale Games today its CEO Dan Conners would not comment on the reports but said they plan to have a major announcement sometime tomorrow.

Update: Game Informer's own web site is now reporting on the story so we will call this one "fact".

More info from Portal 2 leaks out from Game Informer article

Game Informer's big Portal 2 cover story is starting to hit subscribers and some folks are naturally scanning the article and placing them on the internet. VG247.com checked out the scans and put up some more info gleaned from the article featuring Valve's first person puzzle sequel. Now we are not keen to spoil everything from the article so we will just report a few tidbits (you can head to the news post if you want more).

As you might have guessed on your own, GlaDOS is back to his/her/its old ways as the villain while the subject of the original Portal, Chell, also returns as the protagonist. Also look for physics to be a bigger influence in gameplay. Finally a Mac version of Portal 2 is also mentioned which would tie into Valve's new big push into putting games on Apple's machines.

Rumor: No Half-Life 2: Episode 3 in 2010

It's been well over two years since the release of The Orange Box and as a consequence the release of Valve's Half-Life 2 Episode 2. The second of three announced episodic continuations of Valve's first person shooter was packaged in The Orange Box but since its release Valve has not talked at all about the status of the third and final chapter in the trilogy.

Now Cinema Blend is reporting that the new print issue of Game Informer magazine claims there will not be any new Half-Life game released in 2010. That means it will be at least three years, if not more, before we might learn what happens to Gordon Freeman. Last June, Valve head man Gabe Newell claimed there were good reasons for not talking about their plans for Episode 3 yet. Hopefully we will learn those reasons soon.
