Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - December 14

It's a bit of a shame to hear that the Ender's Game adaptation won't be happening at Chair Entertainment. We still think a "Battle Room" game would be fun:

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - October 4

With DC Universe Online being pushed back to early 2011, it looks like this fall's PC game lineup is looking a bit sparse than in previous years. On the other hand the first quarter of 2011 is looking like it will have plenty of new PC game titles.

Steam puts several games on sale for today only

While the Steam PC game download service has put hundreds of its games on sale during its new summer sales event it continues to give several titles special treatment for one day only. From now until 1 pm Eastern time on Saturday the games below get an extra special price cut ranging from 33 to 80 percent off:
  • Aliens Verses Predator Classic 2000 - $1.25 (not a typo)
  • Ghostbusters The Game - $4
  • Serious Sam HD Bundle (Both remakes of First and Second Encounter) - $7.50
  • Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City - $14.99
  • Galcon Fusion - $2.50
  • Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West - $5.10
  • Alpha Protocol - $33.49 (just came out a few weeks ago)
  • Resident Evil 5 - $12.50

Steam offers mid-week indie games sale

Direct2Drive already has a nice indie games sales bundle in place, but now Steam wants in on that indie games sales action. From now until Thursday, Steam is offering seven indie PC game titles for just $2 each. The games are Gridrunner, Space Giraffe, Bullet Candy, Bob Came in Pieces, Altitude, Super Laser Racer, and Galcon Fusion.

But that's not the nice deal. That comes when you buy all seven games in a bundle on Steam. Then the price for the bundle comes to $9.99. That's far cheaper than the nearly $59 you would have to pay for each game separately at their normal Steam prices.

This Week In PC Games: February 8-14

This week's new PC game releases include a sequel to an acclaimed first person shooter, a mini-expansion to a great space strategy game and a downloadable action game based on a long running sci-fi TV and movie franchise that isn't Star Trek. In addition to those games, players will be able to download a unit add-on for Empire: Total War (Elite Units of the East) and a new game in the Galcon strategy game series (Galcon Fusion). Also scheduled to ship to stores this week is Windchaser, a fantasy RPG that was first released in Europe back in 2008.

BioShock 2: 2K Marin takes on the first person shooter franchise with this sequel to the 2007 game that was first created by Irrational Games. The single player game takes place 10 years after the original with the player now in the role of a prototype Big Daddy in the underwater city of Rapture. The sequel also has a multiplayer mode, developed by Digital Extremes, that takes place just before the fall of Rapture.

Galcon Fusion to be released on February 11

Indie game developer Galcon Labs' most well known game is the self-titled Galcon, a high-energy space strategy game that has some elements of risk but in a real time enviroment. The game was originally released for the PC and then was ported to the iPhone/iPod Touch where it became very popular.

Now Galcon Labs has announced that the first true sequel to the PC version is close to release. Galcon Fusion will get a new graphics upgrade, new single player missions along with team and multiplayer games, new gameplay types and even a "retro" mode that turns the game into an 1980s style title. The game will be released for PC, Mac and Linux on February 11. It will also be made available via Steam.
