THQ and Kaos Studios announce Homefront

THQ may be not doing so well in terms of their fianancial situation at the moment but the publisher is still one of the majors and today they announced a major new FPS game. Titled Homefront, the game comes from their Kaos Studios dev team who released Frontlines: Fuel of War in early 2008.

Much like Frontlines, which depicted a near-future where armes fought over low oil supplies, Homefront is also set in a "ripped from the headlines" near-future where the North Koreans have occupied the US following the economic collapse of the country. The story-driven game follows the American Civilian Resistance movement as they try to retake the US.

If this sound a bit like the movie Red Dawn, there's a reason; the director of that classic 1980's flick John Milius has created the storyline for Homefront. The game, which will also have multiplayer options, will be shown at E3 next week. No release date was announced.

Gamersgate weekend deals hit the net

One of them is Frontlines: Fuel of War, the 2008 released FPS from Kaos Studios and THQ. You can download the game from Gamersgate for just $14.99 this weekend, a savings of 50 percent.

In addition, Gamersgate has the fantasy strategy game Fantasy Wars on sale this weekend for just $7.99. Also they are offering folks a free download of EA's first Godfather game with pre-orders of the upcoming Godfather II release.

Kaos Studios recruiting for new FPS project

THQ may be shutting down, selling off or spinning out many of its internal development studios but one of them isn't Kaos Studios. The New York City based team who created the 2008 released FPS Frontlines: Fuel of War is in fact launching a new recruitment drive to get people to work on their next game.

So what is it? Well the only hint comes from the job listing on their web site for a technical/AI designer who will be "working on a next-gen, 1st person shooter using a world-class brand. " Some have already speculated that it could be a Warhammer 40,000 FPS game (THQ has already released a similar game, Warhammer 40,000 Fire Warrior).
