Confrontation announced

A fantasy-themed war game is getting adapted for the PC gaming genre. Focus Home Interactive has announced plans to publish Confrontation, which is based on the minatures war game from publisher Rackham. The PC game adaptation is being handled by Cyanide Studio.

Confrontation is being designed as an real-time strategy title with some role playing elements with four different factions involved: "the brutal Orcs of the Tree-Spirit, the ferocious Wolfen packs, the fearsome Griffon warriors or the terrifying creatures of the Scorpion." Players will create and develop their squads with various types of weapons and equipment to fight on the battlefield. Confrontation is due out sometime in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Game of Thrones RPG revealed

While developer Cyanide Studio is already known to be working on the turn-based strategy game A Game of Thrones Genesis, that's apparently not the only game that the team is working on based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novel series. French language web site Factor News has revealed that the development studio is working on a full fledged RPG based on the series as well.

The site got to actually see an early build of the game which takes place during the time of the novels but tells original stories with new characters (although characters from the books will make appearences). The game is still early in development so there's no release date. Meanwhile A Game of Thrones Genesis is still due for release sometime this summer.

Interview: We chat with Cyanide's game designer on A Game of Thrones: Genesis

a game of thrones genesis
A Song of Ice and Fire is the overall title for the acclaimed fantasy novel series by author George R. R. Martin. 2011 will see fans of the series get the long awaited next novel in the series, A Dance With Dragons, in July. In April HBO will launch a TV series based on the novels, Game of Thrones. Finally the series will get a turn-based strategy PC game, A Game of Thrones: Genesis, from developer Cyanide Studio and publisher Focus Home Interactive that will be released later this year.

Big Download got a chance to learn more about the game from its designer, Cyanide's Regis Robin, including how the game fits into the novels' timeline, how Martin is involved in the game's development and more.

A Game Of Thrones Genesis reveals first screenshots

In June 2010, developer Cyanide Studio and publisher Focus Home Interactive announced plans to release the fantasy strategy game A Game of Thrones Genesis. The game is based on author George R.R. Martin's A Song Of Fire And Ice fantasy novel series.

Today the publisher has released the first two screenshots from the game showing off the visuals that gamers can expect in the game adaptation of Martin's novels. The full game has a single player campaign that will feature options for military, economic , diplomacy and even "dirty tricks" to fight with the Houses in the Kingdom of Westeros. The game is due out sometime this summer.

The Next Big Thing trailer gets a little sexist

We have to admit that this trailer for The Next Big Thing makes us a little uncomfortable. Why? Because it's blatantly sexist. Titled "The Ideal Girl," it pulls the old joke of saying somebody is one attribute and then showing them behaving differently. In this case it's Liz Allaire, the female protagonist. The problem stems from the attributes given to the ideal girl, which range from knowing how to listen to not drawing attention to oneself. This is the first time a trailer as actively made us anxious with its sexism, even if it's relatively tame. The game still looks like a stellar adventure game, it's just this trailer that bothers us.

The Next Big Thing trailer promises more adventure

The Spanish developer Pendulo is known for one thing: Runaway, an adventure series that crosses several different themes. Now they are unveiling their newest adventure game, and the result is this beautiful trailer for The Next Big Thing. Apparently a love song to the fantastic adventure movies of old, the game bears a distinctive art style that reminds us of a more detailed Telltale title. Any possible comparison to Telltale in the realm of adventure games is a good thing, so we're mildly interested in this new title.

Review: Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga

We don't really get a lot of truly awful games to play on Big Download, as most are at least somewhat competent. Still, there are a few that straddle the line between being hilariously and depressingly bad. Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga is one of these games. While the first Divinity was a tepid Diablo clone with a generic story, it was still passable when it came to the presentation and gameplay. Divinity 2 completely fails on almost every level, and that's after a reissue with enhanced graphics and rebalanced gameplay. We fear what the original game is like if this is the far more playable version. This is a game that only the most dedicated of hack and slash players should play, even if there were elements of the game that were approached with a remote amount of care.

The Next BIG Thing gets March 25, 2011 release date

What is The Next BIG Thing? We didn't know what this meant when the adventure game from developer Pendulo Studios was first announced last April. This week publisher Focus Home Interactive announced that the game now has a March 25, 2011 release date.

While we still don't really know what The Next BIG Thing is referring to, we do know that this new game from the creators of the Runaway series focuses on two characters, Dan Murray and Liz Allaire, and their wild adventures. Look for lots of movie and TV references along with "humor, twists and turns, and crazy monsters." Ok, you had us at "crazy monsters."
