Fileplanet subscribers now get 15 percent discount on all Direct2Drive games

IGN has been promoting its Direct2Drive PC game download site a lot more lately. During the holiday season of 2010 the site paid for every fifth order it received. Now IGN is offering a new deal that also promotes its FilePlanet download site.

If you pay for a FilePlanet subscription or IGN's Founder's Club service you will get an automatic 15 percent off most of the games available on Direct2Drive for the life of your subscription. This discount looks like it works even with games that have deep sales discounts already as well as pre-orders for upcoming games on the service.

In related news, Direct2Drive has put all of Focus Interactive's games on sale for 50 percent off this weekend.

IGN reveals layoffs to employees

One of the biggest gaming oriented web sites, IGN, is apparently not immune to cost cutting and layoffs. Our sister site Joystiq has obtained an internal memo from IGN's president Roy Bahat announcing plans that will be "eliminating roles today in every part of the company." IGN is cutting cuts in this way even as the memo says, "we're profitable and our audience continues to grow." Specific layoff numbers or percentages were not revealed in the memo

Launched in 1996 as the Imagine Games Network, IGN has remained one of the biggest game oriented web sites (although it also covers movies, TV, comics and more). Besides the main IGN.com site, it also includes properties such as GameSpy and FilePlanet. In 2005 IGN was acquired by News Corporation for $650 million.

Nexon offers free-to-play FPS Combat Arms

From Nexon, the holder of MMOs Maple Story and Mabinogi, comes something decidedly different -- a realistic-looking first-person shooter called Combat Arms. Aimed at the non-hardcore audience, CA will feature RPG attributes such as experience points and levels, as well as a socialization aspect that includes the creation of clans.

This free-to-play title will begin its closed beta on May 30th on FilePlanet. This is an interesting move for Nexon, and a refreshing change of pace. Will this mercenary shooter find a place within the hearts of its already vast userbase? Only time will tell. The gameplay trailer is embedded after the jump!
