Two more Fallout 3 DLC expansions announced

The rumors about more Fallout 3 downloadable expansions are indeed true. Bethesda Softworks has just announced via an email press release that two more expansions will be released later this year. One (which was previously revealed in a retail web posting) is titled Point Lookout, which will take place in a large swamp area with new quests. It will be released via download in late June.

The second downloadable expansion is titled Mothership Zeta and is all about aliens landing in Fallout's post-apocalyptic world. The press release states that players will experience "an alien abduction first hand and find out if you're tough enough to survive." Ouch. That expansion is due out in late July. Both Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will cost 800 Microsoft points for PC owners to download

In addition Bethesda has confirmed rumors that they will release the first four DLC expansions for Fallout 3 as two retail products on disk. The first, which will contain The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage, will be released on May 26 (next week) while the second, with Broken Steel and Point Lookout), will be released in August. Finally Bethesda will release a Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition in October, containing the original game and all five DLC expansions, for $49.99.

Rumor: New Fallout 3 DLC revealed?

There have been hints that Bethesda Softworks have more plans for Fallout 3 downloadable content beyond the release next week of the third such mini-expansion, Broken Steel. The Fallout fan site No Mutants Allowed may have picked up signs that at least one more such expansion is in the works.

The site has spotted two listings on separate retail web sites that show a retail release of Broken Steel combined with something called Point Look. Naturally Bethesda's official stance is that beyond Broken Steel they have not announced any additional DLC. Of course the whole "announced" designation gives them an out if in fact they do have plans for further DLC products. At the moment put this in the rumor column.

Fallout 3 DLC expansions coming to retail stores?

Bethesda Softworks has so far released two mini-expansions for their post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3. Both Operation Anchorage and The Pitt have been available strictly as a download via the Games For Windows Live client. Now it appears that the publisher may be releasing that extra content as a retail release.

According to a new listing on the Amazon.com site, both of the expansions will be made available in a retail box copy for PC owners. The listing shows a May 26 release date with a $19.99 price tag (both of the expansions were first released for $10 each). For some reason the listing does not mention the upcoming Broken Steel mini-expansion which is due for release via digital download on May 5.

Review: Fallout 3: The Pitt

Fallout 3's irradiated wasteland gets its second boost of content with The Pitt, a downloadable content package that adds an all-new side in a different part of the world. The Pitt takes players to the blasted remains of Pittsburgh, PA. It has become the East Coast's largest slave encampment run by a boss named Ashur. Like with the previous content add-on, Operation Anchorage, the player receives a distress call on the radio, and it isn't long before you meet Wernher, an escaped slave looking for help to free his people. Additionally, inhabitants of The Pitt are infected with a mutagenic plague that transforms them into feral creatures called Trogs, but Ashur may be close to developing a cure. So, it's off to Pennsylvania to rescue a city full of slaves... or find some way to turn the situation to your advantage.

GDC 2009: More Fallout 3 DLC is on the way

Bethesda Softworks has already released two downloadable expansions for their hit post-apocalypse RPG game Fallout 3. A third expansion is due sometime in April. However it looks like fans of the game can expect even more DLC in the future, according to what was mentioned at a GDC panel this week.

According to Shacknews, the game's lead designer lead designer Emil Pagliarulo stated during the panel, "I can say we're working on lots of DLC. Lots of stuff brewing up here. God only knows where that may go. What famous landmarks can we destroy next?" The first two expansions took players to Anchorage, Alaska (via a holo-mission) and Pittsburgh. The third expansion, Broken Steel, reportedly will extend the game's main storyline beyond its ending.

Fallout 3: The Pitt available for download [Update]

It's time to launch that Games For Windows Live client that you almost never use. That's because the second of three planned downloadable expansions for Fallout 3 has been released and can only be downloaded and purchased exclusively with Microsoft's game content download service.

As we have mentioned before, Fallout 3: The Pitt takes your character out of the Washington DC area for a trip up north and west to Pittsburgh for new missions, monsters and more. The expansion from Bethesda Softworks costs 800 Microsoft points to downloat (about $10) but of course you can't actually buy that exact number just so you can get The Pitt. Sorry, thems the breaks.

Update: The Xbox 360 version of The Pitt is apparently experiencing some odd visual glitches for some users; so far those issues have not been reported for the PC version.

This week in PC games: March 23-29

The last full week in March brings a number of major PC retail and downloadable titles down the pike along with a big downloadable expansion:

Stormrise - The Creative Assembly releases this original sci-fi RTS game for publisher Sega featuring battles on a future Earth between technological and biological-themed factions. If you just have Windows XP and DirectX9 installed, you can ignore this game; it's one of the very few that's a Windows Vista-DirectX10 exclusive.

More screenshots arrive for Fallout 3: The Pitt

With its release date getting closer, Bethesda Softworks continues to tease us with more screenshots from The Pitt, the second of three planned downloadable expansions to their hit RPG title Fallout 3. Three new screenshots have just been released and we have added them to our gallery.

This second DLC mission takes place within the main Fallout 3 story as a long side mission as you travel from Washington DC to Pittsburgh on a new main quest. The Pitt is more of a standard Fallout 3 mission than the combat-heavy first expansion Operation Anchorage. You can check out the new screenshots and then get ready for The Pitt when it's released on March 24. As we have reported before the DLC is only available via the Games For Windows Live client and costs 800 Microsoft points (about $10) to download.

New Fallout 3 patch available for Games For Windows Live

Fallout 3 players need to be aware of a small but new patch for the recent Bethesda Softworks RPG game. The official Bethblog site has posted word that the 1.4 patch is now available for download. PC users can grab it via Games For Windows Live.

The reason the patch is only available via Microsoft PC game service is that it adds new achievements for The Pitt, the upcoming second downloadable expansions for the game that's due for release later this month. The patch also adds support for multiple downloadable content. There's no word yet on a specific release date for The Pitt.

First screenshots from Fallout 3: The Pitt released

It's yet another busy day for reveals in PC game land. Bethesda Softworks have just released the first Internet screenshots from Fallout 3: The Pitt, the second of three announced downloadable expansions for their hit post-apocalypse RPG game.

As with their previous expansion Operation Anchorage, The Pitt will be made available exclusively via Microsoft's Games For Windows Live client. It will be released sometime this March for $9.99. As you can see from the screenshots the new expansion takes place in the ruined city of Pittsburgh. Bethesda Softworks also sent over a fact sheet on the game that you can check out after the jump.
