Two more Fallout 3 DLC expansions announced

The rumors about more Fallout 3 downloadable expansions are indeed true. Bethesda Softworks has just announced via an email press release that two more expansions will be released later this year. One (which was previously revealed in a retail web posting) is titled Point Lookout, which will take place in a large swamp area with new quests. It will be released via download in late June.

The second downloadable expansion is titled Mothership Zeta and is all about aliens landing in Fallout's post-apocalyptic world. The press release states that players will experience "an alien abduction first hand and find out if you're tough enough to survive." Ouch. That expansion is due out in late July. Both Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will cost 800 Microsoft points for PC owners to download

In addition Bethesda has confirmed rumors that they will release the first four DLC expansions for Fallout 3 as two retail products on disk. The first, which will contain The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage, will be released on May 26 (next week) while the second, with Broken Steel and Point Lookout), will be released in August. Finally Bethesda will release a Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition in October, containing the original game and all five DLC expansions, for $49.99.

Rumor: New Fallout 3 DLC revealed?

There have been hints that Bethesda Softworks have more plans for Fallout 3 downloadable content beyond the release next week of the third such mini-expansion, Broken Steel. The Fallout fan site No Mutants Allowed may have picked up signs that at least one more such expansion is in the works.

The site has spotted two listings on separate retail web sites that show a retail release of Broken Steel combined with something called Point Look. Naturally Bethesda's official stance is that beyond Broken Steel they have not announced any additional DLC. Of course the whole "announced" designation gives them an out if in fact they do have plans for further DLC products. At the moment put this in the rumor column.

Fallout 3 DLC expansions coming to retail stores?

Bethesda Softworks has so far released two mini-expansions for their post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3. Both Operation Anchorage and The Pitt have been available strictly as a download via the Games For Windows Live client. Now it appears that the publisher may be releasing that extra content as a retail release.

According to a new listing on the Amazon.com site, both of the expansions will be made available in a retail box copy for PC owners. The listing shows a May 26 release date with a $19.99 price tag (both of the expansions were first released for $10 each). For some reason the listing does not mention the upcoming Broken Steel mini-expansion which is due for release via digital download on May 5.

GDC 2009: More Fallout 3 DLC is on the way

Bethesda Softworks has already released two downloadable expansions for their hit post-apocalypse RPG game Fallout 3. A third expansion is due sometime in April. However it looks like fans of the game can expect even more DLC in the future, according to what was mentioned at a GDC panel this week.

According to Shacknews, the game's lead designer lead designer Emil Pagliarulo stated during the panel, "I can say we're working on lots of DLC. Lots of stuff brewing up here. God only knows where that may go. What famous landmarks can we destroy next?" The first two expansions took players to Anchorage, Alaska (via a holo-mission) and Pittsburgh. The third expansion, Broken Steel, reportedly will extend the game's main storyline beyond its ending.

Overseas issues with Fallout 3-Games For Windows Live DLC found

Earlier this morning the Games For Windows Live Marketplace client released its first add-on content for Fallout 3 but unfortunately the process for getting the Operation Anchorage expansion has been difficult for some, especially for those who live overseas. YouGamers reports that folks in a number of countries (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Netherlands and Portugal) are not allowed to purchase and download Operation Anchorage.

YouGames also reports that the language for the expansion is set to where your PC is located, not to what your game is currently set to accept. So if you have an English language copy on your PC but are located in France, Operation Anchorage will be in a French-language version no matter what.

For those of you who have yet get to get Operation: Anchorage remember that you have to purchase and download the DLC it via the stand alone Games For Windows Marketplace client (you can grab it right here on Big Download) and have an active Games for Windows Live account. There's no in-game download nor can you grab the DLC via any other digital download service.

Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage available to download

If you have been waiting to get the first downloadable expansion for Fallout 3, wait no more. The Games For Windows Live Marketplace client now has the first such expansion, Operation Anchorage, available to download and purchase right now. You will have to buy it via Microsoft Points (the same as if you were getting extra content for an Xbox 360 game) with Operation Anchorage valued at 800 points (about $10). It's the first such add-on for a PC game that has been made available exclusively via the Games For Windows Live Marketplace client.

Once you purchase and download the expansion you can launch Fallout 3 and then find that a new quest and new objective marker has been added to the game. Once you reach that market the new content kicks in. Operation Anchorage gives players an extra few hours of gameplay via a "simulation pod' that lets them participate in an event in the game's history; the fight for Anchorage, Alaska.

Three more Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage screenshots come forth

Bethesda Softworks continues to push out the new screenshots for their first Fallout 3 expansion Operation Anchorage. Today the developer-publisher released three more images from the upcoming downloadable mission that will be released via Games for Windows Live on Jan. 27. That includes the above shot of some familiar looking Fallout 3 characters in an unfamiliar setting.

In case you are unaware, the new downloadable mission add about 5 extra hours to the Fallout 3 game as you experience a holo-mission taking place in Alaksa before the events of the game. The downloadable content will set you back $10 when released.

Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage due Jan. 27

Bethesda Softworks has been keeping us in suspense over the release date of their first downloadable content update for Fallout 3. Today the publisher announced that their hit RPG will get that DLC update for Operation: Anchorage on Jan. 27 for $9.99.

Just a reminder: This extra holo-mission takes place in Alaska at a time before the events of the game and adds a few more hours of gameplay to Fallout 3. Bethesda plans to release two more downloadable updates to the game, one in February and another in March. The March update will actual go beyond the main game's ending and will also raise the player level cap.

More Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage screenshots released

Later this month, Bethesda Softworks plans to release the first of three planned downloadable expansions to their post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3. Today the publisher released three more screenshots from the DLC, Operation Anchorage, showing off more of the mission that your player character experiences in hologram form in the game.

As with previous screenshots, the look of Operation Anchorage is much different than the main game as you experience a mission that takes place well before the events of Fallout 3. There's even ninjas as you can see above. A specific release date for the expansion has yet to be revealed by the publisher but PC owners will have to pay $9.99 to download it.

Screenshots from Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage emerge from the cold

We normally don't get too excited about downloadable content, especially stuff we have to actually pay for, but it looks like Bethesda Softworks will be making their plans for Fallout 3 content worth it with the release in January of Operation Anchorage for their hit RPG.

The developer-publisher has now released the first (non-watermarked) screenshots from the downloadable expansion which, as we reported yesterday, will add up to five hours of gameplay. Operation Anchorage takes place as a simulation in the Washington DC area as you get to relive one of the big moments in Fallout history. The downloadable content will cost about $10 and will only be accessible via Microsoft's Games For Windows Live service.
