Bethesda Game Studios working on two unnamed titles

The development team at Bethesda Game Studios is usually known to work on just one game at a time, which is why there's usually a big gap between its game releases (Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion was released in March 2006 while its last game Fallout 3 came out in October 2008). However, as revealed in a new interview at Eurogamer, the development team's head man Todd Howard revealed that there are actually two games currently in the works at the studio.

As he states, " ... we're in production on the new game, and we have a design going for the one after that." Usually there's a long time between when a Bethesda-made game is announced and when it actually ships out but Howard says that with the current game that won't be the case, saying. "... when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us."

Rumor: Fallout lawsuit dropped by Bethesda Softworks?

For the past several months, publishers Interplay and Bethesda Softworks have been engaging in a court battle over what Interplay can do with the Fallout game licence. Now fan site Duck and Cover is reporting that Bethesda Softworks has decided to drop their appeal of the lawsuit against Interplay.

Just a recap: Bethesda bought the rights to the Fallout game franchise from Interplay several years ago but gave Interplay a license to develop a MMO based on the property. However in 2009, Bethesda filed a lawsuit against Interplay claiming Interplay had failed to get Bethesda's approval for the marketing materials of a re-release of Interplay's old Fallout games. They also sought to terminate Interplay's Fallout MMO plans.

If Duck and Cover's info is true, Bethesda has now decided to drop the lawsuit which likely means that the Fallout MMO game (also known as Project V13) can indeed be developed. Indeed Interplay has already released some concept artwork for the game and some possible screenshots have been leaked as well. We have emailed Bethesda's PR folks for comment.

Fallout 3 PC Game of the Year due on October 13

Bethesda Softworks' hit RPG Fallout 3 will be a year old in October and now the developer/publisher has revealed that their previously announced Game of the Year edition of the game will ship to stores for the PC on October 13.

The Game of the Year edition will include the original game plus all five of the game's mini-expansions (Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta) that were released earlier this year via download from the Games or Windows Live Marketplace. If you haven't bought Fallout 3 yet this is the perfect opportunity to get all of Bethesda's official expansion on one disk. The PC version for the Game of the Year edition is priced at $49.99.

Future Fallout 3 expansions may not have new level caps

Fallout 3 has had four mini-expansions available for download (the fifth, Mothership Zeta is due on August 3) but so far only one of them, Broken Steel, has raised the level cap for the hit RPG. The expansion raised the cap to 30 but can developer Bethesda Softworks raise it even more?

MTV Multiplayer put that question to Bethesda's Jeff Gardiner and he states, "I know from the outside this seems like a fairly simple proposition, but doing this could unbalance the game in a variety of ways." While he hints later on that they could change their minds at some point we don't expect this to happen anytime in the near future.

Fallout 3: Point Lookout dev diary and new screenshots released

Bethesda Softworks is getting ready to release the fourth mini-expansion to their best selling open world RPG Fallout 3. Today the game's official web site has added six new screenshots from the DLC expansion, Point Lookout, along with an extensive developer's diary on the expansion

The dev diary talks about how the creative team used the real swamp and marsh land region around the real Point Lookout, MD as their basis for the setting of the expansion along with trying out some new artisitic styles and putting more of a dense setting than the original game's Capital Wasteland. The expansion will be available for purhase and download via Games for Windows Live on June 23.

Two more Fallout 3 DLC expansions announced

The rumors about more Fallout 3 downloadable expansions are indeed true. Bethesda Softworks has just announced via an email press release that two more expansions will be released later this year. One (which was previously revealed in a retail web posting) is titled Point Lookout, which will take place in a large swamp area with new quests. It will be released via download in late June.

The second downloadable expansion is titled Mothership Zeta and is all about aliens landing in Fallout's post-apocalyptic world. The press release states that players will experience "an alien abduction first hand and find out if you're tough enough to survive." Ouch. That expansion is due out in late July. Both Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will cost 800 Microsoft points for PC owners to download

In addition Bethesda has confirmed rumors that they will release the first four DLC expansions for Fallout 3 as two retail products on disk. The first, which will contain The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage, will be released on May 26 (next week) while the second, with Broken Steel and Point Lookout), will be released in August. Finally Bethesda will release a Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition in October, containing the original game and all five DLC expansions, for $49.99.

Rumor: New Fallout 3 DLC revealed?

There have been hints that Bethesda Softworks have more plans for Fallout 3 downloadable content beyond the release next week of the third such mini-expansion, Broken Steel. The Fallout fan site No Mutants Allowed may have picked up signs that at least one more such expansion is in the works.

The site has spotted two listings on separate retail web sites that show a retail release of Broken Steel combined with something called Point Look. Naturally Bethesda's official stance is that beyond Broken Steel they have not announced any additional DLC. Of course the whole "announced" designation gives them an out if in fact they do have plans for further DLC products. At the moment put this in the rumor column.

Fallout 3 DLC expansions coming to retail stores?

Bethesda Softworks has so far released two mini-expansions for their post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3. Both Operation Anchorage and The Pitt have been available strictly as a download via the Games For Windows Live client. Now it appears that the publisher may be releasing that extra content as a retail release.

According to a new listing on the Amazon.com site, both of the expansions will be made available in a retail box copy for PC owners. The listing shows a May 26 release date with a $19.99 price tag (both of the expansions were first released for $10 each). For some reason the listing does not mention the upcoming Broken Steel mini-expansion which is due for release via digital download on May 5.
