Fallen Earth gets 10 day free trial and 20 percent discount

While not quite as drastic as the unlimited free trials for recent MMO games like CrimeCraft or Age of Conan, the development team at Fallen Earth LLC clearly want more people to check out their post-apocalyptic title Fallen Earth. This week the developer announced that they are offering a free 10-day trial to check out the game for yourself.

In addition the developer is selling the full game on its web site for $39.99, which is 20 percent off its normal price during the holidays. The game is currently going through a holiday-themed live event (apparently a holocaust doesn't keep Christmas down) with special missions where you can get in-game items like eggnog.

Fallen Earth shows up on Impulse with extra items

Last month, the development team for the post-apocalypse MMO Fallen Earth gave a nice in-game item to anyone who bought the game on Steam for a limited time. Now the game has become available on another PC game download service, the Stardock-run Impulse.

To celebrate, anyone who buys the game on Impulse gets a couple of unique in-game items as well and we have to say we love the names for them. They are the Fancy White Boots and the Snazzy White Hat. Yes, you can travel in the blasted wastelands looking (and we bet feeling) good. Each item has some special bonuses to give to your character as well. Which mean that (and yes, we know its corny) these boots aren't just made for walking. But one of these days they will still walk all over you.

GameStop has Cyber Monday 2009 sale on downloadable PC games

GameStop is not known for their digital download offerings but for today's Cyber Monday 2009 promotion the gaming retailer is offering 50 percent off of 50 downloadable PC game titles. While the game's prices appear to be normal at first when you put them in the site's online checkout page they go down to the promised 50 percent amount.

Some of the more recent games that are a part of this promotion include Fallen Earth, Section 8, and Sacred 2, all of which can be purchased for $24.99 each. Other games on sale include Assassin's Creed for $9.99 and Port Royale 2 for a mere $2.59.

Fallen Earth has special Steam in-game item offer

While not getting the media attention of other MMOs released this year like Aion and Champions Online, the release of the post-apocalypse MMO Fallen Earth has neverless generated a solid cult following. It's also expanded its retail reach to include stores like Best Buy. Now the developer Fallen Earth LLC has announced a limited time offer for people who purchase the game via Steam.

From now until December 3, people who buy the game through Valve's download outlet will get a voucher that can be used to get a free faction-related t-shirt. Players will be able to trade their voucher to an NPC in the game to get their t-shirt. Six such t-shirt, each with a specific faction logo, can be purchased and the shirt also acts as a level 10 shirt armor piece.

Steam breaks out lots of holiday PC game download sales

From now until early Friday you can get some huge download deals on various PC games and game bundles. The bundles include the LucasArts Premiere Pack with 16 titles for just $49.99. Also the THQ Complete Pack has 18 game titles priced together for $49.99

Here are the other games in this portion of the sale:
Osmos - $2
Champions Online - $19.99
Dragon Age: Origins - $37.49

Lots of MMO games hold Halloween themed live events

One of the cool things about massively multiplayer games is the ability to generate live events and nowhere is that more evident than during Halloween where a number of MMO games stage live events filled with monsters and otherwise supernatural events. We've already reported on Champion Online's Blood Moon event and Star Wars Galaxies' Death Troopers but our sister site Massively has been keeping track of other MMOs holding similar events.

  • Fallen Earth is letting its players fight off zombies in their Days of the Dead event which you can see above this post. That event begins next week.
  • Everquest II players is holding its Nights of the Dead event from now until November 9 with decorations, special item drops and more.
  • Warhammer Online players get serious with their Daemon Moon Rising event that begins on October 23. Look for a new public quest called Daemonball Rally among other things.
  • City of Heroes players have their own unnamed Halloween event beginning on October 20. Heroes will face a wave of enemies when they destroy a Haunted Sigil and are rewarded with a "ghoulish surprise" if successful.

Fallen Earth devs give status report

In the midst of a flood of new MMO PC product that was released inside a month recent, the post-apocalypse themed Fallen Earth has generated a solid fan following. The game was officially launched in the last half of September and now the game's development team at Fallen Earth LLC have posted up a status report on the game's progress.

A new patch is in the works that will be released soon that will include an extended training area for new players to learn more skills in the game. A second patch will "include an increased focus on group-oriented and social content, such as camps, that we've heard players want." While the game has sold well as a downloadable product, apparently the box product is having a hard time reaching store shelves. The update states, "We are working hard with our distributor to remedy those situations and open up new channels for folks to buy including the ability to buy directly from www.fallenearth.com." Ultimately this little indie-made MMO seems to be doing well even in the face of high-powered new MMO releases that have gotten more marketing and PR attention.

Risen rises to top of latest Direct2Drive top 10 sales list

Direct2Drive's latest list of its top 10 best selling PC games downloaded for the week that ended October 3 shows that the Piranha Bytes-developed fantasy RPG Risen is at the number one spot. It's an . . .interesting choice since the game has gotten decidedly mixed reviews from critics so far. NCsoft's MMO Aion has fallen back down the list to the number three slot (Standard Edition) and number five (Collector's Edition). The post-apocalypse MMO Fallen Earth seems to have staying power; it's at number two for the week.

Keep in mind that many of the games on this Direct2Drive list were boosted by its $5 sales promotion:

1. Risen - Piranha Bytes/Deep Silve
2. Fallen Earth - Fallen Earth, LLC
3. Aion - NCSoft
4. Mount and Blade ($5 Sale) - TaleWorlds/Paradox Interactive
5. Aion Collector's Edition - NCSoft
6. World of Goo (45 Sale) - 2D Boy
7. Champions Online - Cryptic Studios/Atari
8. BioShock ($5 Sale) - 2K Boston/2K Games
9. Defense Grid: The Awakening ($5 Sale) - Hidden Path
10. Civilization 4 ($5 Sale) - Firaxis/2K Games

Fallen Earth trailer gets to the core of the game

If you're still wondering what the recently launched MMO, Fallen Earth, is all about, then this video should give you some clues. Like with many RPG's, it all comes down to choice. Players can work towards rebuilding civilization, or they could step on some faces. Most will probably enjoy stepping on faces while rebuilding civilization in their own image.

"Mankind teeters on the edge of extinction, clinging to the bones of the old world while trying to recover long forgotten secrets. The Grand Canyon is the last bastion of humanity. The Shiva virus, which wiped out nearly all of humanity, has left the survivors and subsequent generations altered. The virus caused mutations, some of which were benign, some malignant, and just some incredible.

It is your choice to either rise above the hardships of the post-apocalyptic world and rebuild what was lost or embrace the destruction and erase the corrupt world that remains."
