Ubisoft: R.U.S.E. plays better with Playstation's Move controller than PC's controls

One of the big advantages RTS players have for the PC is the precise use of the mouse and keyboard controllers versus normal console controllers. But in the "Them's fighin' words" category comes a new Eurogamer interview where Ubisoft producer Mathieu Girard claims playing its upcoming RTS game R.U.S.E. is actually better on the Playstation 3 port with the new Playstation Move motion controller.

Girard states that the development team R.U.S.E. put in support for the Move controller in the PS3 port pretty quickly, saying it only starting adding that support "four or five weeks ago". He then makes the bold claim that playing with the Move controller is " ... better than on PC with mouse and keyboard because you can play on a couch, really relaxed, and you don't have to get close to your screen, and you don't have to make large movements." Later he admits that PC players are " ... still going to be a bit more efficient playing with a mouse and keyboard because you have shortcuts." However he still feels that the Move controller is better "for the comfort".

As we mentioned on Monday, a PC demo for R.U.S.E. is due out sometime tomorrow with the full game scheduled for release on September 7. The Playstation Move controller is due for release in the US on September 19.

R.U.S.E. to use Steamworks instead of Ubisoft's "Always On" DRM

Ubisoft's decision to make its most recent PC games use an "always on" internet connection for its DRM set up angered many PC gamers. Now it looks like one upcoming PC title, the WWII themed RTS game R.U.S.E., is making the decision to dump that kind of set up in favor of another.

In a post on the game's official message boards, an Ubisoft community developer confirmed that R.U.S.E. will in fact use Valve's Steamworks for its DRM program. This isn't a huge shock as Steam has been used to beta test the game off and on for the past several months. While a Steam account and an internet connection will be needed to activate the game, R.U.S.E.'s single player mode will be available for offline play. This is a direct break away from Ubisoft's past few PC games that always needed an active internet connection in order to play the game, even in single player mode.

R.U.S.E. gets September 7 release date for US

In just a few more weeks an RTS game that has been long in development and suffered through some delays will finally be released. No it's not StarCraft II; that game is finally out. We are talking about R.U.S.E., the WWII themed game of deception and trickery.

The game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft will finally be released for the PC and other platforms on September 7 in the US, according to a "tweet" from Ubisoft community manager Aymeric Evennou. The game will be released in Europe on September 9. While the game has had a couple of beta and "free preview" events on Steam there's no word if an actual demo for R.U.S.E will be released.

R.U.S.E. free preview weekend extended until Wednesday

While some betas are now winding down others are getting extended. Case in point is the free multiplayer preview weekend for R.U.S.E. The preview time period was supposed to be over by now but now the Steam web site has announced that the free play period has been extended a few more days.

You can now play the preview build of the upcoming WWII RTS game until Wednesday at 6 pm Eastern time (3 pm Pacific time). That means more time to trick, deceive and confuse your opponents in this very different take on the RTS genre from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft. The final version is still due for release sometime in September.

RUSE free preview weekend begins

As promised, users of Steam can now jump in to download and play a free multiplayer preview build of R.U.S.E., the upcoming WWII-themed RTS game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft. This is the game that uses trickery, false units and structures and overall deception to keep you and your enemies on your toes.

The preview build contains new maps that were not available in the previous open beta of the game on Steam and it also has support for all six of the game's factions. The preview event will end at 4 pm Eastern time on July 18. R.U.S.E. is currently scheduled for a retail release in September.

R.U.S.E. gets free preview weekend on Steam starting July 15

Recently the development team for Ubisoft's upcoming WWII RTS game R.U.S.E. hinted that something was coming via Steam on July 15. Today it was revealed that Steam owners will be able to play a preview build of the game for free starting at 2 pm Eastern time on July 15 and running through this weekend. Folks can go ahead and pre-load the preview build on Steam now.

This preview build of R.U.S.E will be different than the open beta version that was offered earlier this year with a "sizeable" amount of the game's multiplayer mode available with new maps, all six factions and support for up to 8 players. The preview build will also let players try to defeat the game with medium and hard AI settings. R.U.S.E is still scheduled to officially launch in September.

New R.U.S.E. Steam beta (or maybe demo) coming July 15?

It's been a long while since there's been any concrete info on the status of R.U.S.E., the decoy-filled WWII RTS game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft. Currently the game is set for release sometime in September after a couple of announced delays.

However R.U.S.E's Senior Producer Mathieu Girard made a post on the game's message board earlier this week that the team has been busy working on the game and that, "In a matter of days, I will announce a big surprise, a special treat for all our fans." That announcement may have been made on the game's official Facebook page with the above piece of artwork showing Valve's Steam logo with the numbers "15-7". Does that mean that Ubisoft could restart the Steam multiplayer beta for R.U.S.E. on July 15? Perhaps a full-fledged demo? Stay tuned.

R.U.S.E beta might start up again before release

The long-in-development RTS game R.U.S.E has had more than one release date delay since it was announced over a year ago. With the game now scheduled for an early September release, it looks like the development team might give PC gamers a chance to check it out before its final release.

In an online chat at Strategy Informer, reps from the game's publisher Ubisoft hinted strongly that it might start up beta testing agame for R.U.S.E. before it ships out. R.U.S.E had both a closed and open beta test via Steam that ended in April. Feedback from the beta caused Ubisoft and the game's developer Eugen System to delay the game from its previous June release date to September.

R.U.S.E. delayed again until late September

A highly anticipated RTS game has had its release delayed once again. The official Facebook page for R.U.S.E has announced that the title's release has been pushed back from June to sometime in late September. The game was originally supposed to be released in the first quarter of 2010.

According to the Facebook announcement, the decision to delay the game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft once again was based on the feedback from the PC public beta test that concluded earlier this month via Steam. The note states, " . . . this extra time will allow us to implement many of your suggestions and improve the multiplayer experience while polishing the overall game." Among the things the dev team plans to improve are the multiplayer menus, the unit selection and the strategic AI behavior.

SteelSeries to release R.U.S.E. branded mouse and mouse pad

The open beta test for the upcoming WWII RTS game R.U.S.E. ended a couple of days ago but the game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft will be getting a boost in publicity with the announcement today of two R.U.S.E. branded products from SteelSeries. The PC gaming peripheral maker is planning to release both a R.U.S.E branded gaming PC mouse as well as a mouse pad.

The SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse R.U.S.E.
