GoG.com adds Ground Control 2; puts Enlight games on sale

The DRM-free web site GoG.com has added yet another game from Rebellion's pool of former Vivendi Games titles. This time it's Ground Control II, the sequel to the sci-fi RTS game from developer Massive Entertainment. You can download and purchase the full game now for a mere $5.99.

GoG.com has also posted up its weekend sales deal a little early today. They have put all of their tiles from publisher Enlight in one big bundle for just $25. You get Capitalism Plus, Capitalism 2, Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries,
Seven Kingdoms 2: The Fryhtan Wars and Warlords Battlecry 3 in the bundle and if you already own one or more games in the collection you can still get 30 percent off the price for the rest of the games in the set.

Even more downloadable PC game sales this weekend

If you want to save some money this weekend while also buying some PC game titles, we have already provided a number of choices. But there are even more to consider. For example, Stardock's Impulse web site has put a number of games from publisher Enlight on sale. Restaurant Empire, Nemesis of the Roman Empire, Warlords Battlecry III and Capitalism II are all on sale via Impulse for $9.99 each.

IGN's Direct2Drive has also put one of its many games on sale. Gas Powered Games' last release, the action-RPG Space Siege, can be downloaded and purchased for $9.99, a 50 percent cut from its normal price, for this weekend.

Three more games added to GoG.com this week

It's Tuesday and that means more classic PC games have now been added to the GoG.com web site. This week the site adds Warlords Battlecry 3, the 2004 released RTS game from developer Infinite Interactive (now better known for their Puzzle Quest series) and publisher Enlight. You can download the game now for $9.99.

Two other older games are now available for $5.99 each. One is Cannon Fodder, a 1994 tactical action game from developer Sensible Software and publisher Codemasters. The other game is Alien Nations (also known as Amazons and Aliens) a 1999 strategy-action game from developer Neo Software and publisher JoWood.

Rise of the Triad among new GoG.com games this week

GOG.com made a lot of folks happy when it announced last week it was going to add several classic titles from the Apogee/3D Realms label to their downloadable game line-up. Today GoG.com has added a second Apogee game with Rise of the Triad, released back in 1994.

The game was one of the first titles in the first person shooter genre to try to capitalize on the success of id Software's Wolfenstein 3D and Doom and still has some of the odder weapons made for such games (drunk missiles come to mind). The game ispriced at $5.99 at GoG.com and includes extra levels not in the original version along with the game's soundtrack. Also added at GoG.com is Seven Kingdoms 2, the 1999 RTS game from Enlight that's also priced at $5.99.

GameTap's Thursday update offers X2: The Threat free

Monthly-pay-based service GameTap today added three games to its already vast library -- Dracula Twins, Alien Shooter Vengeance, and Dark Matter. Yeah, those don't make us fall out of our chairs from the force of the excitement, either. Well, they could be fun; you never know, right? Correct us if we're missing out!

But here's what's really cool: Egosoft's X2: The Threat has been made available to all users -- even non-subscribers. That means you can play X2 for free. If you don't know it, it's a pretty decent game, so long as you're attracted to the genre (3D space trading ala Wing Commander: Privateer or Freelancer). It's a bit daunting at first but give it a try if it's your sort of thing. Alternatively, you can buy it on Steam for a measly ten bucks.

For the uninitiated: GameTap charges a monthly fee to provide members with unlimited access to an enormous library of classic (and on some occassions, new-ish) PC and console games. It updates its library on Thursdays, hence "GameTap Thursday." Sometimes, as you may have gathered, certain games are available to non-paying members.
