Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - September 14

We love comics here at Big Download (in case you haven't figured that out) so we think its really cool that Valve is releasing the Left 4 Dead comic for free. Who would love to see a regular monthly Team Fortress 2 comic in this format?

Elven Legacy: Magic available to download

Paradox Interactive's third and final downloadable expansion for the fantasy themed turn based strategy-RPG Elven Legacy has been released to various digital download services today. The expansion, Elven Legacy: Magic, is priced at $9.99

The expansion "packs" (hehe) quite a lot of new content for such a low price. It includes 15 more campaign missions for the game along with an all new hero hero. In addition player can expect "the return of heroes of old". You can also expect new tactical skills, new spells and new artifacts. Paradox previously released two other expansions to the game, Elven Legacy: Ranger and Elven Legacy: Siege.

Paradox Interactive reveals 2009-early 2010 release schedule

In an economic era where some game publishers are reducing their future game releases, Paradox Interactive seems to be increasing the number of games it has planned for the future. Part of the reason is that Paradox is releasing a number of games and expansion packs as download exclusives, bypassing the retail market.

This week Paradox announced their release schedule for the rest of 2009 and for the early part of 2010. As you can see there's only three upcoming titles that will be released to stores; all the rest are digital download exclusives. Paradox also hints that in addition to the games listed below they have a number of unannounced titles coming up.

Elven Legacy to get three mini-expansions this year

Earlier this year we reported that Paradox Interactive was planning to release a downloadable mini-expansion to their fantasy RPG-strategy game Elven Legacy. Now that expansion, Ranger, is being joined by two more mini-expansions. All three are being developed by 1C Company and will be released by the end of the year.

Elven Legacy: Ranger will still be first out of the gate on October 20 and will feature two new heroes, 16 new campaign missions and new artifacts and spells. On November 17 the second mini-expansion, Elven Legacy: Siege, will be released. That will have 19 new missions plus extra unlockable missions, three new heroes and two different armies. Finally the third mini-expansion, Elven Legacy: Magic, is due out on December 1. It will contain 15 new missions plus an additional bonus mission along with new spells and artifacts and the return of some older heroes. All three mini-expansions will be priced at $9.99 each.

E3 2009: Elven Legacy: Ranger expansion announced

Paradox Interactive had yet another E3 2009 announcement this week, revealing their plans for the downloadable expansion pack Elven Legacy: Ranger. The fantasy RPG-turn based strategy game from developer 1C-Company is scheduled for release via download only for $9.99 in the third quarter of 2009.

The expansion will add a lot of new content to the original game including a new weapon, a holy spear, that can do more than one special attack per turn. There will be 16 new missions in the expansion along with three new heroes, five unique artifacts, and 12 new spells. The expansion also has several different ways players can reach its ending, although there is just one ending in the game's storyline.

This week in PC Games: April 6-13

After a bit of a breather, PC gamers get a solid list to choose from in terms of new PC game releases this week:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena: Vin Diesel's sci-fi franchise may not be as popular as the Fast and Furious movie franchise but this new game from developer Starbreeze Studios and publisher Atari does return Diesel's character of Riddick back in the FPS game genre. With an all-new single player campaign, a graphically revamped version of the 2004 game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and new multiplayer modes there's quite a lot of Riddick to go around this time.

GDC 2009: Paradox Interactive

Aside from the great single-studio games I saw at GDC this year, I also got a chance to visit with the great people behind Paradox Interactive, and the games they're bringing to America from foreign shores. I've already talked about Mount & Blade and Majesty 2, and now I'd like to give some room to the other titles I was shown, each of which offers something worth your while. Read on to learn more about East India Company, Elven Legacy, and Hearts of Iron 3!
