Deus Ex: Human Revolution trailer slices and dices with elbow blades

Deus Ex is one of our favorite games of all time, and the latest installment (Human Revolution) looks to be a worthy addition to the series. This trailer only furthers this impression, with a solid collection of gameplay footage, albeit in a chopped together and mostly cinematic fashion. It shows off plenty of the things we'd want in a Deus Ex game: biomods, hacking, proper inventory space, and cool futuristic weaponry. There's also some awesome animations thrown in as well, such as the ground slams and elbow blade finishers. Our only complaint is, funnily enough, just how overpowering the orange coloration is, as it obscures the action.

Guardian of Light trailer reinvents the Tomb Raider franchise

It's time to see Lara Croft's latest adventure, Guardian of Light, for ourselves. The game was released on Steam this week, and to commemorate it, Square Enix has released a launch trailer. It is what you would expect from a launch trailer: it shows off some gameplay, gives a list of quotes from publications that gave the game a favorable rating, and lists where the player can get it. Most of the gameplay shown in this trailer is of the co-operative "kill everything" kind, though, which is a sharp departure from Lara's roots in 3D platforming.

Report: Kane and Lynch movie stalled again

The on again-off again movie adaptation of Io Interactive's Kane and Lynch action game franchise is now reportedly off again. The Los Angeles Times reports that the movie version was supposed to start filming in October but now word is that the movie's planned director Patrick Alessandrin is no longer involved.

Now the producers of the long gestating movie at Millenium Films have decided to push back the movie's start date until early 2011 while they look for yet another director. Wayne Kramer, F. Gary Gray and Antoine Fuqua are all in the running but so far nothing is settled yet. Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx are still, at least at the moment, planning to play the title characters.

Square Enix reports profit in latest financial report

The latest game publisher to reveal its financial numbers for the last quarter is Square Enix. The Japan-based company revealed late last week that it had secured a profit of 1.8 billion yen for the quarter that ended on June 30. That's compared to a loss of 1.7 billion yen for the same period a year ago.

Square Enix said the better financial results were due in part to solid sales of games such as Just Cause 2 in the US and Europe. The company has a number of games coming out for the PC in the next several months including Kane and Lynch 2 (out next week), the MMO title Final Fantasy XIV, and the RPG titles Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dungeon Siege III (both due out in 2011).

Kane & Lynch 2 videos get an up-close look at the main characters

These two videos for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days gets up close and personal with the two main characters by demonstrating their different styles and psychologies. The sequel's story centers mainly on Lynch (shown above), a psychopath who won't think twice about about rushing into situations. Kane, on the other hand, is an ex-mercenary and prefers to take a more organized approach when being shot at. His video can be seen after the jump. In truth, when bullets start flying, it doesn't really matter which approach you take, since they're both equally as effective. Players will have a chance to put their unique skills to work when the game releases on August 17th.

The PC version of the open world action game Just Cause 2 remains one of the few PC games out there that cannot be played natively in Windows XP (although you can play the OnLive streaming version). Now Steam is giving folks a chance to get the full game at a much lower price this weekend.

Kane and Lynch 2 Dog Days PC demo available via Steam

As promised last week the PC demo for Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days is now available to download. The demo is currently only available via Valve's Steam service. The demo will allow PC gamers to try out a slice of the upcoming third person shooter from developer Io Interactive and publisher Square Enix.

Steam is also offering a 10 percent discount for pre-order of Kane and Lynch 2 before the game itself is released on August 24. As we reported recently, Kane and Lynch 2 for the PC will ship with Valve's Steamworks game development tools including achievements, leaderboards, and more.

New Lara Croft downloadable game not due for PC until at least September

PC fans of the Lara Croft/Tomb Raider game franchise will have to wait until at least September to play the latest game in the series. Eurogamer reports that the upcoming downloadable action game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light won't be made available for PC owners until at least mid-September.

The game will be released on August 18 on the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade service. However an unnamed rep for developer Crystal Dynamics told Eurogamer that because the new Lara Croft game is participating in the Xbox 360's Summer of Arcade promotion, " ... there is a window of exclusivity. That window of exclusivity is a set four weeks." A more specific PC release date may be announced in "seven to 10 days" according to the developer rep.

Kane and Lynch 2 goes gold; shipping one week earlier

With publishers now going into the silly season of announcing delays for many of their previously planned fall games, it's a little different to learn about a title that is actually coming out earlier than planned. Today publisher Square Enix announced that is exactly what is happening with its third person shooter Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days.

The Io Interactive-developed shooter with the two very messed up protagonists was scheduled for an August 24 release date but today the publisher announced that the game has now "gone gold" and will be released one week early on August 17 for the US. Europeans will now get the game on August 20.
