Deus Ex Human Revolution gets creepy and fictional TV commercial

While Deus Ex Human Revolution is still several months away from its late August release date, the viral marketing campaign for the cyberpunk themed RPG is in full swing. A fictional TV commercial for the game's fictional multi-corporation Sarif Industries has just popped up on the net.

The commercial shows the "benefits" of getting cyber implants for your body including turning you into a piano master, taking pictures with your eyes and ... playing football with your son? Somehow we don't think most people would have issues with the last part but who knows? We suspected more of these TV spots might show up before the game is released.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's PC port to be handed by Nixxes Software

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is due out in August but the PC port of the next game in the acclaimed cyberpunk-themed RPG series from publisher Square Enix won't be handled by the game's primary developer at Eidos Montreal. Shacknews is reporting that the PC version is being handled by little known developer Nixxes Software from the Netherlands.

According to the story, Eidos Montreal doesn't have enough people to handle all three versions of the game at once. However Nixxes Software is no stranger to this kind of work. It also handled the PC port for other previous Square Enix games such as Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Eidos Montreal's game director Jean-François Dugas states that the main team is still involved in the PC port, saying, "We review the builds. We review and then give comments about what works and what doesn't."

Report: Deus Ex Human Revolution due out on August 23 in US [Update]

deus ex human revolution
Fans of the Deus Ex sci-fi action-RPG series have been waiting patiently for the third installment Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Today retail web sites like GameStop changed their release dates for the game to show a August 23 ship date for the title. Publisher Square Enix previously announced a few months ago that the game would not make its planned first quarter 2011 release date.

While Square Enix has yet to officially announce a new specific release date this would seem to correlate with other release dates announced for Australia (August 25) and the UK (August 26). We have emailed Square Enix for an official comment.

Update: Eidos Montreal's Twitter page has now confirmed the US and UK released dates.

Thief 4 shown in new photo?

thief 4
Thief 4 was announced nearly two years ago but the game's development team at Eidos Montreal hasn't said much and shown nothing of the next game in the "sneaker" shooter series. Now a new photo found on the company's web site seems to show off something that looks like it could be from the new game in the Thief series.

The shot seems to show a person in third person with a bow in his hand. If this really is from Thief 4 it would seem to show that at least part of the game uses the third person perspective. There's still no word on when Thief 4 will be released. Eidos Montreal is still working on Deus Ex Human Revolution which is supposed to come out sometime in 2011.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution delayed

Deus Ex: Human Revolution won't be coming out in the first quarter of 2011 after all. The highly anticipated next game in the cyberpunk action-RPG series' released has been pushed back into sometime into publisher's Square Enix's next fiscal year which begins on April 1, 2011 and ends on March 31, 2012.

In a financial note today, Square Enix cited "weak sales performance of console game titles that have been newly released during the current fiscal year" as part of the reason behind the delay. It added that it will "send additional time to further polish" the game which is being developed at Eidos Montreal.

Before today the publisher was ramping up its efforts for marketing the game including announcing an "augmented edition" of the title and launching a "viral web site" that showed some of the fictional back story behind the game.

Deus Ex Human Revolution launches new Sarif Industries viral site

It's all about viral marketing these days. You know what we mean; promoting something like, oh, a game for example by creating marketing events that at first don't seem to be marketing at all. That's the case with the newly launched Sarif Industries web site which just happens to be a fictional company found in the upcoming RPG Deus Ex Human Revolution.

The site itself starts out as a fairly bland corporate ad, even if its attempting to show off its cyborg implants. However after a few minutes of exploring the site something else shows up; someone or something from outside takes over and enlists you into a hacking mini-game. If successful you unlock even more stuff that's been deemed classified. All in all its a nice little diversion and a reminder that Deus Ex Human Revolution is due out in the first quarter of 2011.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Augmented Edition and pre-order specials announced

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is ramping up the marketing for its first quarter 2011 release by announcing plans to release an "Augmented Edition" (code for Collector's Edition) for the upcoming cyberpunk-themed RPG. The game from developer Eidos Montreal and publisher Square Enix will be priced at $49.99 for the PC port of the Standard Edition with a $59.99 price for the PC Augmented Edition. That price will get you the game and a number of extras including a behind-the-scenes DVD, a motion graphic novel and a 40 page art book.

In addition there will be two special pre-order incentives. GameStop customers who put their money down early will be able to access an additional mission in the game that features a special cameo appearance from an unnamed character from the original Deus Ex game. You will also get some extra in-game items ( The Linebacker G-87 multiple shot grenade launcher, the M-28 Utility Remote-Detonated Explosive Device (UR-DED), and the Automatic Unlocking Device). Other retailers will get a separate pre-order bonus which will include extra in-game credits and two in-game items (The Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun and the Longsword Whisperhead Extreme Range Sniper Rifle) .

The first issue of the series is slated to ship to comic book stores in February.

The comic book is simply titled Deus Ex and features the lead character of the Human Revolution game, Adam Jensen. The series is being written and drawn by a couple of Brits; Judge Dredd veteran writer Robbie Morrison and Trevor Hairsine, who has credits including Captain America, X-Men Deadly Genesis and Ultimate Six.

Human Revolution trailer fights invisible enemies

Those eager to see the rebranding and resurrection of the Deus Ex franchise don't have that much longer to wait. Well, comparatively to the long time between Invisible War and now. To drive up the hype and anticipation for Human Revolution, Square Enix is blasting players with cinematic trailer after trailer. The latest, fresh from the Tokyo Game Show, shows off some of the antagonists, more biomodifications to the player character, and the difference between the cybernetic supporters and normal people. It's stunning, as we have come to expect, but still gives no real sense of what the game will be like.
