Kane & Lynch 2 trailers bring on excessive violence

Square Enix recently announced the return of the sadistic duo Kane and Lynch in Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, a sequel to be published under the Eidos brand name. Now, no one expects that kind of announcement to come quietly, right? These two teaser trailers probably aren't representative of anything players will find in the game, but they show off some of the 'documentary style' the game will be adopting. The video above might provide some clues as to why the game is called Dog Days. Continue after the jump to find innovative uses for a bowling ball. The game is expected to release sometime in 2010.

"Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a raw and brutal crime shooter designed to take players on an even more intense story experience, following two of gaming's most disturbed criminals, through the gritty Shanghai underworld."

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days officially annouced

In 2007, Eidos released Kane and Lynch: Dead Men from developer Io Interactive. The co-op themed third person shooter got mixed reviews, a movie deal and indirectly lead to a mass exodus of Gamespot team members. Now the newly renamed Square Enix Europe has officially announced that Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days is coming to your PC hard drive, if you dare, sometime in 2010. Despite the recent name change in the publisher, the game will still be released with the Eidos brand.

Expect to see lots of shaky camera work in the sequel as the official press release claims that the game "is inspired by documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era." You can expect to see lots of bullets fly out as the duo cuts a bloody chunk out of "the gritty Shanghai underworld." Hopefully it won't cut a chuck out of a gaming web site's personnel this time.

Just Cause 2 dev video discovers dozens of uses for a grappling hook

At first glance, the grappling hook feature in Just Cause 2 looks suspiciously similar to the one in Bionic Commando. It can be used as a kind of offensive weapon, a means of transportation by swinging from place to place, or a means of making a quick escape by grappling onto a wall and zipping away. However, what makes it unique in this game is that players have the option of using the line to tether things, such as people, onto other objects like lamp posts, cars or aircraft. It may sound like a small enhancement at first, but as you can see, it opens a world of possibilities. Just Cause 2 is expected to release in the spring of 2010.

Square Enix consumes Eidos . . .but the Eidos name isn't dead yet

Square Enix's purchase of the UK-based Eidos is now complete, according to a new press release issued this week. From now on the former Eidos operations will be referred to as Square Enix Ltd. and will operate as part of the Square Enix Europe unit.

However that doesn't mean we have seen the last of the Eidos logo or brand name. The press release indicated that the Eidos name would still be used as a brand for the release of games, along with Square Enix and Taito. That likely means that the former Eidos game properties like the Tomb Raider and Hitman series could still have the Eidos logo for any future installments even though the games will officially be owned by Square Enix.

Battlestations games and Hearts of Iron III on sale via Steam until Thursday

Steam breaks out some more big PC game sales in the middle of the week. This time the two WWII action-strategy games Battlestations Midway and Battlestations Pacific have both been put on the price chopping block from now until Thursday. The games from developer/publisher Eidos are on sale for 50 percent off their normal price.

Another game in Steam''s library will be having it's price cut until Friday, Paradox Interactive's recent WWII strategy game Hearts of Iron III is getting the treatment. Steam owners can download and purchase the title for just $14.99, a savings of (you guessed it) 50 percent from its normal price.

Warren Spector tried (and failed) to buy the Deus Ex franchise

Warren Spector, despite the fact that he has (temporarily we hope) left the PC game space to work on some Wii game called Epic Mick-something-or-other, is still in love with the Deus Ex game franchise. How much? So much that, according to a new Variety article, he tried to buy the rights to the series from its current owners Eidos. Unfortunately for us, he failed.

Spector clearly wants to work on the franchise saying, "There were and still are 'Deus Ex' stories I would like to tell. That story is not done for me." Eidos' Montreal studios are currently working on Deus Ex 3 but they have been extremely quiet for the most part on their progress since the game was announced two years ago.

Rocksteady working on another Batman game?

It surprised many in the industry earlier this year. Batman: Arkham Asylum did in both sales and in solid reviews for the super hero action game, a genre known for its disappointing titles. So of course there are rumblings that a sequel to the game from developer Rocksteady and published Eidos might be in the works.

According to Goononline.com, the new issue of the Official Playstation Magazine has a quote from Rocksteady's Sefton Hill. When asked about the possibility of a sequel to the game he says, "I'm not really allowed to comment on that, but there are definitely lots of exciting stories to tell in Batman's world, and I can say that we're really privileged to work on it, and excited about future possibilities." Sounds like sequel talk to us.

Just Cause 2 trailer proves that it can get the job done

When it comes to getting impossible jobs done, Just Cause 2 will let players run wild to creatively overcome any and all obstacles.

"As Rico Rodriguez, the Agency's most powerful weapon, players must take on the island and its military regime to track down Rico's former boss and mentor, Tom Sheldon, who has gone rogue in Panau with millions in Agency cash and secrets. Using a unique grapple and parachute combination, there is no vertical limit as the air becomes your playground: grapple a passing plane in flight, hijack helicopters or BASE jump from the tallest buildings or mountains."

Movie producer talkes Kane and Lynch, Just Cause and Hitman movies

And you thought Uwe Boll had video game movies on the brain. Hollywood movie producer Adrian Askarieh also loves to turn video games into feature films and his first effort, the adaptation of the Eidos game Hitman in 2007, brought in over $100 million in revenues (even if it got mixed reviews from critics).

Our sister site GameDaily has posted up a chat with Askarieh who talks about his various upcoming movie projects which include the long-in-development movie adaptation of Kane and Lynch. Askarieh says that the film, after " . . . two and a half years of false starts, is finally going into production." Filming will begin in March 2010 and it still has Bruce Willis signed on for playing Kane. Another Eidos game property, Just Cause, will "shoot spring of next year." A Hitman movie sequel is in the works but Askarieh says its unknown if the first movie's lead, Tim Olyphant, will return, although he states, " . . . we'd love to have Tim if he wants to do the movie."
