X Rebirth announced

As promised a few weeks ago, developer Egosoft has officially announced its next game project and to no one's surprise it's a new entry in its X space simulation series. Titled X Rebirth, the game is described as "a fresh beginning bringing with it a number of gameplay innovations without compromising its successful origins."

While there are not a lot of details yet, X Rebirth will let players see the massive game universe through the eyes of "
a young adventurer and his unlikely female ally travelling in an old, battered ship with a glorious past." Look for "action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration" in the game. It's due out from publisher Deep Silver in the fourth quarter of 2011. You can check out a teaser trailer after the jump:

Egosoft to announce "TNBT" in late April

After years of working on the X series of space trading simulations, it looks like developer Egosoft is finally ready to announce something a little bit different for its next title. Today the developer's official web site announced that the announcement of its next game project will be made by its publisher Koch Media on April 28 at the FedCon sci-fi convention in Germany.

While the first announcement will be made at FedCon Egosoft states that all the info will also be revealed on the developer's web site. The game itself has the code name "TNBT" which likely is an acronym for "The Next Big Thing".

Egosoft announces X Superbox collection for European release

The team at development studio Egosoft seem to want to stretch out the support for its X franchise of space sim titles to its upper limit. This month the developer announced plans to releaseX Superbox (yep, that's its real name) a new retail collection of all of the games in the franchise.

And we mean all of them. The collection, to be published by Deep Silver in Europe on October 8, contains X: Beyond the Frontier, X-Tension, X2: The Threat, X3: Reunion, and X3: Terran Conflict. All of the games have been updated to their latest versions and also contain all of the expansion packs and official DLC releases. The collection also has a bonus DVD containing a bunch of third-party created content and mods for the games, an MP3 soundtrack, tutorials and walk-throughs for the games and more. And to top it all off the X Superbox collection has a 300 page encyclopedia describing all of the fictional backstory of the X-franchise. So far there's no word if this collection will be released in the US.

X3: Terran Conflict coming to the Mac (and X3: Reunion gets a Mac do-over)

Next month PC gamers in the US will be able to buy a retail version of X3: Terran Conflict that includes the new expansion pack Aldrin Missions. But Mac gamers will also be able to play the space trading-sim game as well. In a recent announcement on their X-Universe newsletter, the game's developer Egosoft announced plans to release the game for the Mac platform in April.

The port is being handled by Virtual Programming Ltd. which claims to have created an all new technology to port PC games to the Mac. In fact about a month after X3: Terran Conflict is released the same company will also release a Mac port of the previous game in the series X3: Reunion. That particular title was released before using the Cider port technology but apparently gamers were not too happy with the conversion, hence the move for a do-over with Virtual Programming's tech.

First X3: Terran Conflict expansion screenshots are spaced out

Last week we reported that Egosoft was prepping a big content expansion for their 2008 release space sim X3: Terran Conflict. Now we have the first screenshots from that expansion which is titled the Aldrin Missions.

As we reported last week, X3: Terran Conflict will make its US retail debut on April 7 and it will include both the original game and The Aldrin Missions expansion (the original game was released to stores last fall in Europe but was only made available in the US via a Steam powered digital download). The expansion will add new ships, missions and features to the game and previous owners of the original version will be able to get all of the new content via a 2.0 patch.

X3: Terran Conflict expansion announced; retail release April 7

Egosoft's space sim game X3: Terran Conflict will soon get a whole lot bigger thanks to the just announced expansion pack The Aldrin Missions. Not only that but the new 2.0 version of the game will include the expansion and will finally ship to stores in the US on April 7.

X3: Terran Conflict was previously released to stores in Europe but was only made avaialble in the US as a Steam-delivered download exclusive title last fall. Now publisher IGS will bring the revamped version of the game to stores on this side of the pond. The 2.0 version will include The Aldrin Missions expansion which will add "a host of new missions, new ships and much more." The new version will also be made available via Steam as well. It's currently unclear if previous owners of the game will get the expansion for free or if they will have to pay for the DLC.
