Merchants of Brooklyn gets renamed to Drug Wars

We always thought the name "Merchants of Brooklyn" was an odd title for a sci-fi first person action game. Apparently so does the game's developer Paleo Entertainment. After releasing their CryEngine powered action game with that title last March as a single player game, the company quietly renanamed the game today on the Steam service with the much more generic title Drug Wars.

Drug Wars was previously the name given to Merchants of Brooklyn's recently added multiplayer mode but now that title covers both the single and multiplayer portions of the game. Today's name change also comes with a new patch for the game (automatically handled via Steam) that adds a few new features and fixes some bugs.

Free multiplayer mode for Merchants of Brooklyn released

You may remember a few months ago that developer Paleo Entertainment released Merchants of Brooklyn, a CryEngine 2 based first person action game. You may also remember that the developer first released an older alpha version of the game to the public before admitting their mistake and making the final version available on Steam.

Now comes word that the multiplayer componant for the game, Drug Wars, has been made available as a free update visSteam. The team-based mode combines elements of Capture The Flag and Base Defense as teams try to secure all the "drugs" on the map during the match. There is support for up to 32 players along with updated weapons and four vehicles. The new update also includes a number of bug fixes for the original game.

Free multiplayer update to Merchants of Brooklyn revealed

Several weeks ago, indie developer Paleo Entertainment released the CryEngine 2 based FPS Merchants of Brooklyn. The game gained some fame for releasing a buggy alpha version as the final product first before the actual finished game was released via Steam.

Now a post on the Paleo Entertainment message board has revealed plans for a free multiplayer update to Merchants of Brooklyn with the rather interesting title of Drug Wars. As the post describes, "Find the drugs, stash the drugs, defend the drugs, kill everyone and take their drugs! YOU MUST HAVE DRUGS!" Well, they seem to be going for the Jack Thompson audience with this one. The expansion will be shown at Paleo's booth at E3 in June but no release date has been announced.
