Dragon Age 2 trailer gives you three paths to one goal

It's been long known what classes the main character can play in Dragon Age 2, but if you wanted a brief summary, here's the trailer for you! The warrior is a brute class that relies on beating the snot out of people with his sword and shield. The mage, unsurprisingly, uses magic as well as a blade to rip apart his foes. Finally, the rogue dances around, slicing enemies to ribbons with dual-wielded daggers. Unfortunately for us, this isn't really anything new, as we've seen all of these classes before. Still, if you are up for some gore (and a sweet tearing spell from the mage), here's your trailer.

Dragon Age Legends trailer gets together for a fight

EA2D has currently done two browser game tie-ins to major releases, and both have been absolutely fantastic. The first was the Mirror's Edge tie-in, while the second was the Dragon Age: Origins tie-in. Now it's time for the third game, and it's naturally an extension of Dragon Age 2. Titled Dragon Age Legends, it is apparently on Facebook now rather than simply existing as a Flash game. Unfortunately, this trailer doesn't give us any further information than the name and location. It's is simply a bunch of smooth, beautiful animation that has no relevant information on the game.

Dragon Age 2 demo confirmed for release on February 22

After dismissing previous news reports of a Dragon Age 2 demo as "speculation", developer BioWare has finally admitted that a demo of their fantasy RPG game is in fact due to be released on February 22, about two weeks before the full game is made available on March 8.

BioWare has also given a description of the demo's content, stating that it will consist of the full game's prologue section as well as a brief part after the prologue where players control the main character Hawke through the new land of Kirkwall and meet up with smuggler and romatic interest Isabela. Players will be able to pick from three character classes in the demo. Once the demo is completed, players will be able to access the Hayder's Razor weapon (shown to the right) in the full version of the game.

Dragon Age 2 PC demo news "speculation", says BioWare

Despite the fact that a link to an upcoming PC demo of Dragon Age 2 clearly has a "dragonage.bioware.com" web site address, developers at BioWare are trying their best to downplay the discovery of the web site that will give GameStop employees a chance to download a demo for its upcoming fantasy RPG sequel before the general public.

BioWare's David Gaider posted up a note on the game's official message boards, stating, "The demo is not 'confirmed'. We have made no official announcement. This is speculation, and no matter what it's based on it shouldn't be so misleading." Meanwhile the web site that started the "speculation" is still live, stating that the public demo for the game will be released on February 23.

Dragon Age Legends Facebook game goes into closed beta

With Dragon Age 2 now about a month or so away from its release date, publisher Electronic Arts has now announced that a Facebook-based companion game, Dragon Age Legends, has started its closed beta test. People can sign up for the beta at the game's official web site.

The game will allow players to "take on challenging quests, earn loot, share rewards and build your kingdom." Facebook friends can be recruited to help you in your quests and to fight off Dragon Age's demons and darkspawn creatures. As we have previously reported, players of Dragon Age Legends will be able to unlock up to five unique in-game items that can be used in Dragon Age 2 when it is released this March.

Dragon Age II PC DRM explained

Do you have a minute? Good. Sit down because this might take a while. The team at BioWare has revealed what kind of DRM set-ups will be put in for the PC version its upcoming fantasy RPG Dragon Age 2. According to a post on the game's official message boards users of the Steam download service have it pretty simple; download the game via Steam and it will use Steam's own DRM set-up.

Things get more complicated if you purchase the game via other download sites or in retail stores. For one, Dragon Age 2 for the PC will have a feature that won't allow people to play the game before its scheduled release date and time. Once the release date has passed you will be able to install the game on as many PCs as you want with no disk check. However there is a limit on the number of PCs that you can play Dragon Age 2 on in a 24 hour period (5 PCs to be exact). Each install must be verified via a one time online connection before you can play. Finally while you can play Dragon Age 2 offline it will require an online check after a still undetermined period of days. All in all it's not the worse DRM set up we have ever heard about.

Dragon Age 2 trailer reminds us of Dead Space 2

It appears that Isaac is having a bit more of a delusion than what could be considered usual. He's on The Sprawl, but keeps flashing back to some kind of medieval time period, with magic and dragons being the most pressing matter. EA has decided to crossover their two biggest Q1 releases, Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age 2, and the result is Isaac Clarke's armor for the main character of Dragon Age 2. That's it. There's nothing on the stats of the armor or if it fits a particular archetype of character, but it certainly looks good!

Dragon Age 2 trailer explores combat options for PC players

Dragon Age 2 is taking a few steps towards the action RPG genre and a few steps away from its tactical roots, but that doesn't mean it's lost sight of the more cerebral players. Much like Dragon Age: Origins, players can approach Dragon Age 2 in two different ways, and this trailer shows the two. The first is obviously the action RPG route, where you beat enemies with combos and really feel like you are in the thick of the action. The second is the more cerebral, tactical RPG style which suited Baldur's Gate so well. Instead of jumping around in the thick of combat, you can take a bird's eye view to set up devastating maneuvers. In other words, it's just like the last game's controls (on the PC, anyway), only with a better direct action option!

BioWare founders to be inducted into AIAS Hall of Fame

The founders of one of the most successful game developers of all time will be getting a big honor in 2011. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has announced that BioWare's co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk will be the latest game developers inducted into the AIAS Hall of Fame. It will be the first time in the award's history that it will be given to two people in the same year. The award will officially be presented during the AIAS's annual DICE Summit on February 10 in Las Vegas.

After getting their medical degrees, Drs. Muzyka and Zeschuk founded BioWare and since then have given us some of the best PC and console games ever made. Titles like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age Origins have cemented the developer's reputation as one of the best, if not the best, RPG maker in the industry. At the moment the developer has three games scheduled for release in 2011: Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 and the long awaited MMO Star Wars The Old Republic.
