This Week In PC Games: March 15-21

Continuing with a busy March for new game releases, this week has gamers looking forward to a new game in a classic RTS series, an expansion pack to last year's big PC RPG and a post-apocalypse shooter with some high end graphics.

Command and Conquer 4: Electronic Arts is promoting this latest entry in the pioneering RTS series as the final chapter of the Kane-Tiberium storyline. New features include RPG-lite elements, a class-based system, changes to the game's traditional resources model and a persistent ranking system that requires the game to always be signed onto the internet in order to work.

Dragon Age trailers awaken to meet Justice, The Architect, and some nasty Disciples

Players can hardly go wrong with the Spirit of Justice as a party member. But who knew he'd be a zombie? It looks like this spirit, ripped from the Fade, will have a lot of learning to do. Fortunately, class sessions include chopping Darkspawn up. Continue reading after the jump for videos introducing a badass villain known as The Architect and another revealing Darkspawn Disciples that are intelligent enough to talk to you before trying to kill you. The Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening expansion releases on March 16.

"Not all the denizens of the Fade identify with darker emotions like rage and pride. Some embody the nobler qualities found in humanity: faith, hope, compassion, and justice. Justice is not a name, it is an identity. A victim of magic gone awry, Justice has been torn from the Fade against his will and trapped in the body of a dead Grey Warden. Lost and disoriented, he seeks a guide to help make sense of this alien world and demonstrate what it means to be human."

More proof of upcoming new Dragon Age game in Awakening box

Last month, Electronic Arts announced plans to publish some kind of new Dragon Age game in the first quarter of 2011. Now there's further proof of some kind of new entry in BioWare's fantasy RPG series as 1Up.com reports on a mysterious piece of art in the retail box of Dragon Age Origins: Awakening, the upcoming expansion to last fall's game.

As you can see there's a big dragon and the date 02.01.2011 on top. That suggests that something Dragon Age related is going to be released on February 1, 2011. But is it another large expansion pack or a true sequel to Dragon Age Origins? If it's a sequel it would be released less than 18 months after the original game came out.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening trailer brings in Mhairi to hack up some darkspawn

With the darkspawn getting stronger and smarter in the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening expansion, players will need all the help they can get to fight back the horde. In comes Mhairi, a knight recently recruited into the Grey Wardens, but hasn't gone through the Joining Ritual yet. It remains to be seen whether or not she's as uptight dedicated to doing the right thing as Alistair is. Adventurers will have a chance to find out when the expansion releases on March 16.

EA offers deal on Dragon Age Origins if you buy Awakening expansion

March is going to be one very busy month for PC gamers with a ton of AAA games planned to ship to stores or available via digital download. One of those games is Dragon Age: Origins The Awakening, the expansion pack to BioWare's hit RPG that's coming out about five months after the release of the original game.

Now comes word that Electronic Arts' online store is giving folks who haven't bought the original Dragon Age Origins a chance to get both that game and The Awakening expansion at a solid price. The online store is offering the digital download version of The Awakening for its regular price of $39.99. However if you pre-order that game you can also get the original title for $29.97, which is 40 percent off its normal price. The Awakening expansion is scheduled for release on March 16.

Dragon Age Awakening roster takes in a member of the dead

In Dragon Age, the Legion of the Dead is a group of castless dwarves who are officially declared dead (they have a funeral and everything) so that they have no worldly ties as they spend the remainder of their days fighting off the darkspawn. However, in the Awakening expansion, the darkspawn suddenly get a whole lot smarter and practically wipe out all the Legion's fighters. That being the case, does having Sigrun join your party qualify as a kind of resurrection? Players will have a chance to find out when the expansion releases on March 16.

"There is only one way to leave the Legion of the Dead: by fulfilling a vow to die in battle against the enemies of Orzammar, a sacrifice that absolves any guilt. Sigrun craves a chance to prove she is more than a worthless gutter-rat, but it's hard to rush headlong into a battle you won't survive. After all, when you grow up casteless, you learn to fight for everything. You learn that you have to watch out for yourself, because no one else will, and the Stone knows no one's going to miss you when you're dead. Sigrun's a survivor, and old habits die hard."

New Penny Arcade Dragon Age Origins comic launched

Next month's release of the commercial expansion pack Dragon Age Origins The Awakening is getting a nice promotion via the Penny Arcade team. The creators of the well known web comic strip are creating a six week strip for the official Dragon Age Origins web site to tell a story related to the expansion pack.

The first week's comic strip is already online and begins the story of a mysterious character that's attempting to break into the Grey Wardens's home at Vigil's Keep. What is his purpose? The storyline will conclude when The Awakening itself is released in late March.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening character is very angry

The world of Dragon Age has no shortage of bloodthirsty characters with anger management issues, but what makes Velanna's rage especially potent is her ability to bring trees to life to fight for her. Of course, she's probably accounting for the fact that characters can cover their weapons with magical flames. Somehow, extremely flammable killer plant life seems less threatening.

Players will be able to meet Velanna when the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening expansion releases on March 16.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening trailer bears ugly children

Children can be cruel... especially when they're the of the insectoid Darkspawn variety like the ones featured in this Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening trailer. These kids are hungry and looking to munch down on some unwary heroes.

Continue after the jump to watch a trailer introducing Anders, one of the new traveling companions included in Awakening. He's a powerful apostate wizard who goes against the rules governing the Circle of Magi. Ever since hanging out with Morrigan in the main game, adventuring without an apostate just doesn't seem right. Awakening is scheduled to release on March 16.

Dragon Age Origins - Awakening trailer discovers a threat in the Black Marsh

It probably goes without saying that players will encounter more than a fair share of challenges when playing the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening expansion. Although there are more than a few dragon encounters in the main game, this is probably the first one that's made of magic. Players will have a chance to test their might in the Black Marsh when the expansion releases on March 16.
