Yar's Revenge trailer goes bug hunting

Yar's Revenge is all about bugs and guns, and the developers have reinforced that point with this trailer. It explores the creation of the Qotile, the weapons that Yar has at her command, and the Zorlon cannon. It's an interesting face being put on an old franchise, as all of these names and elements were present in the original Atari title. We can't help but feel a little apprehension at the in-game footage, though.

Feature: XBLA Games That Deserve PC Ports

There are some games that PC gamers just wish they had. Most of them usually fall into the realm of retail games, as there are tons of console exclusive retail games and not many downloadable ones. However, that is not to say that downloadable services don't have anything to offer. Some of a system's best games can be found on their online markets. We've rounded up 20 games, in no particular order, from the Xbox Live Arcade that should realy see a port to PC. Some have PC counterparts (like Catan) and others came from formerly PC developers (Dead Samurai, Castle Crashers). But they all have the trait in common that they should really see life on your computer. Because there's nothing worse than a game without a wider audience.

Guardian of Light trailer reinvents the Tomb Raider franchise

It's time to see Lara Croft's latest adventure, Guardian of Light, for ourselves. The game was released on Steam this week, and to commemorate it, Square Enix has released a launch trailer. It is what you would expect from a launch trailer: it shows off some gameplay, gives a list of quotes from publications that gave the game a favorable rating, and lists where the player can get it. Most of the gameplay shown in this trailer is of the co-operative "kill everything" kind, though, which is a sharp departure from Lara's roots in 3D platforming.

Guardian of Light trailer raids some isometric tombs

Lara Croft isn't content to be limited to a single series. Rather, Crystal Dynamics is spinning her off into a new, isometric adventure called Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. In case you haven't seen anything regarding it yet, this trailer offers a good peek into what you can expect from the latest adventure of Lara Croft: co-op, isometric platforming and shooting, and plenty of tombs to plunder. It's equal parts gameplay footage and cutscenes, so if you're interested in this short, downloadable title, give this trailer a looksee.

Review: Lucidity

LucasArts has been lagging behind in original content over the past few years. Once known for their incredibly engaging and original games, they have instead focused on expanding their established franchises of Star Wars and Indiana Jones. As a part of the revitalization of old and original LucasArts properties, the Secret of Monkey Island game was remade in high-definition. One the team was done with Monkey Island, they decided to make something else. Something original. Lucidity was the result of this. A mixture of puzzle, adventure, and platformer genres, it's nostalgic both through its simple gameplay and in the notion that LucasArts genuinely wants to create new, valuable properties for their portfolio. It may not be mind-blowing, but it's not half bad either.

Lords of the Realm 3 released on GoG.com

With the original Lords of the Realm and its esteemed side-sequel Lords of Magic on GoG.com, it was only a matter of time until the rest of the series made an appearance. Skipping Lords of the Realm 2, GoG.com has leapt directly to Lords of the Realm 3. A big departure from the series, it is nevertheless a great strategy game, and GoG.com has it for the low price of $5.99. As always on GoG.com, the game comes with some bonuses. In this case, it's the manual, wallpapers, reference cards, and some avatars.

Jetpack 2 in development, has dev blog

Who loves old DOS games? We love old DOS games! And one of the best is a little platformer called Jetpack. Originally shareware, the developer later released it as freeware for all to enjoy. And even though it was thought long dead, the sequel is still very much being developed. Known as Jetpack 2 (surprise surprise!), it has some new features that will put the old Jetpack to shame. Reading the developer's blog is an excellent insight both into those new features and some of the hardships an independent developer faces.

Some of the new features for Jetpack 2 are intriguing, such as the choice between playing on the web or downloading the game, or embedding specific missions that you have created into another web page. There is also a great post on the nature of vaporware and, in a way, getting in over your head. The blog is an excellent read for all interested in seeing how a cherished sequel will come to life.

E3 08: Singularity trailer ... I got a bad feeling about this

The narrator of this Singularity trailer possesses an air of weary resignation. "This may be the last time my voice is heard," he says in an Eastern European accent. He goes on to tell us, without giving any details, that something really bad has happened, and continues to happen. And then all sorts of electrical phenomena occurs, intershot with images of military personnel and a mysterious, glowing figure.

So what exactly is Singularity? And what's going on, anyway? See for yourselves in the HD version of this E3 2008 trailer, downloadable right here on Big Download. And if you find out, maybe it's better that you keep it to yourselves, so that later, you won't have to say "I told you so."
