Review: Mass Effect 2: Arrival DLC

With the "Arrival" DLC expansion, the high-action Mass Effect 2 comes to its conclusion and the way is open for Mass Effect 3 to release in the fall. Admiral Hackett gives Shepherd some face time this time around, as opposed to being a disembodied voice, and asks him to embark on a special covert mission. It involves tracking down a spy captured in Batarian space who has information on a massive Reaper invasion coming to wipe out all life in the galaxy. The evidence not only proves definitively that the Reapers are coming, but details the launching point from where all life in the galaxy will be exterminated.

Mass Effect 2 DLC trailer heralds the Reaper invasion

Mass Effect 3 is Bioware's next highly anticipated game, and their latest DLC offering is bridging the gap between Mass Effect 2 and its upcoming sequel. Put into a situation where he must stop a Reaper attack on a Mass Relay, Shepard apparently must rescue somebody from a prison, fight off corporate thugs and Collectors alike, and do all the things we expect of him. In short, it's pretty much a standard BioWare DLC trailer. Lots of style, a teensy bit of gameplay, and a hook to make you want to buy the add-on.

Black Ops trailer sings of a song of love in Berlin

It's a bit surreal to see a singing-and-dancing trailer for the best-selling game of last year. That's exactly what this trailer is, though, as it details to forbidden love between a Black Ops and Spetsnaz member at the Berlin Wall. Of course, it's an advertisement for the First Strike map pack, which contains the Berlin Wall as one of the playable areas. The developers did sort of exhaust most of the in-game footage and developer commentary with their previous trailers, but it's still a bit strange - and hilarious - to see a trailer like this!

Black Ops trailer gives yet another glimpse at the first DLC

We get the feeling that Activision really wants us to buy the First Strike DLC map pack for Black Ops. Well, if you're on 360, anyway. Us PC folk will have to wait a while for the exclusive pack to work its way over onto our little desktop beauties. While the first four maps in this trailer are the same we've seen in previous mentions of the map pack, the last is new. That's right, Ascension has finally made its way into a trailer. It appears to be a rocket laboratory, with plenty of excellent places to gun down those pesky Nazi (and not-zi. Get it?) zombies.

Black Ops trailer gives us a taste of the new DLC

While the pricing for Call of Duty DLC is something most people can disagree on, this trailer gives us hope that the maps will at least be high quality. It covers four of the five new maps in the Black Ops 'First Strike' DLC and discusses the additions made at the request of the community: more open spaces, more sniper opportunities, more verticality, and more interactive objects. Each glimpse at the four multiplayer maps details the few important features, such as collapsing walkways and automated turrets. However, one map is mysteriously absent in the trailer: the zombie mode map Ascension.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light trailer introduces two familiar faces

Before bought out by Eidos and contracted to reboot the beleagured Tomb Raider franchise, Crystal Dynamics was known for a different set of games: the Legacy of Kain series. With this new DLC for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, they have returned to one of the franchises that made them incredibly popular by putting Kain and Raziel (the two main characters from Legacy of Kain) into the world of Tomb Raider. It's an interesting trailer, and while the differences appear to be mostly cosmetic, it's still pretty cool to see Raziel and Kain working together once more.

Mafia 2: Joe's Adventure gets crazy and dangerous

Mafia 2, despite being plagued with inconsistent design, is still receiving DLC. Joe's Adventure is the latest in the add-on campaigns for the open world title, and it's only a week away. To commemorate this, a new trailer has been released for the add-on, and it showcases some of the gameplay players can expect while walking a mile in Joe's shoes. There's nothing particularly new for the Mafia series here, but it does exhibit some great new areas and characters. We love the shootout in the restaurant and the car chase on the ice floes, in particular.
