DIRT 3 debut trailer shows lots of weather

Developer-publisher Codemasters isn't going to make people wait very long for the next game in its Dirt off-road racing series. As promised last week the company unveiled its teaser trailer for Dirt 3 during ESPN's X Games coverage this past weekend and that footage has found its way to YouTube.

The footage doesn't make clear if its comes from the game engine or if its pre-rendered. It does show a off-road racer going through a number of different settings and environments (rain, snow, heat, and summer tourist locations). It ends with an explosive finish but we will leave you to see that for yourself. The trailer shows a 2011 release date for Dirt 3.

Dirt 3 trailer to debut during ESPN X Games coverage this weekend

It's been less than a year since the release of Dirt 2 but developer-publisher Codemasters is getting ready to reveal the first details on the next game in their off-road racing sim series. The company's communications director Rich Eddy has confirmed via his Twitpic account that Dirt 3 will make its trailer debut during TV coverage of the X Games this weekend on the ESPN cable network. You can see an image from the trailer above this post.

Dirt 2 came out for the PC in December 2009 (a few months after the console versions) and was the first PC title to support DirectX 11 graphics features out of the box.

Codemasters working on DiRT 3

Even as Codemasters works on their Formula 1-based racing game F1 2010, the developer/publisher is already looking to make a third game in their off-road DiRT series. Edge.com reports that Codemasters Studios vice president Gavin Cheshire revealed the news in Edge's latest print issue.

Details about the game itself are still on the slim side although Cheshire did say that perhaps DiRT 2 (released for the PC last December) perhaps had a bit more of a US slant for the UK-based company. He states, "Dirt 2: brilliant game but it's all American accents, so maybe we're a little over the top with those. Maybe we should fly the flag a bit more."

Codemasters looking for new money?

UK-based publisher Codemasters has not been immune to the current economic situation and today reports are that the company is close to securing some more money after 2009 left it short of cash, according to a new report at the UK based Time Online web site.

The story claims that in addition to new funds from existing investors Balderton Capital and Goldman Sachs Codemasters will gain money from an unnamed new investor source. However the publisher's current release schedule is lacking in upcoming games. After releasing several titles in 2009, including Damnation, Fuel, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Dirt 2 the company currently has just one upcoming game that's officially announced; the long-delayed MMO Jumpgate Evolution.

Review: DiRT 2

DiRT 2 lives up to its namesake by offering an intense off-road rally car racing experience for fans looking for a slight change of pace from paved circuit racing games. Although some tracks include some paved roads, players spend the majority of their time on dry, dusty roads, sliding sideways almost as often as driving straight. The loose driving surface can be a lot for new players to get used to, but it won't be long until players find themselves competing against the best for cash and prestige.

This week is the last in 2009 where we will see major PC game titles ship to stores (although there will likely be a few downloadable titlesand expansions that will come out next week). This week's releases include the final game from a major dev studio and the final chapter in a adventure game revival.

The Saboteur - Pandemic Studios' office got shut down a few weeks ago by Electronic Arts. But the last game made at the offices goes out with a bang with this WWII open world action title centering on a lone rebel in Paris who tries to fight the Nazis.
