Lego Universe to get digital trading card game

Even as developer Netdevil gets ready to finish up work on the family-themed MMO Lego Universe, The Lego Group is working with another developer to release a digital trading card game based on the MMO. Today The Lego Group announced that the trading card game will be released in 2011, after the Lego Universe MMO will be released on October 26.

The trading card game will be created by Dire Wolf Digital, the recently launched developer based in Denver and made up of veterans of Sony Online's various digital trading card games. No other details on the Lego Universe trading card title were announced.

Dire Wolf Digital Game Studio launches

Some of the folks behind Sony Online Entertainment's Denver development studio have decided to break off and launch an all new game studio. The new company announced its presence today as Dire Wolf Digital Game Studios.

The company was founded by Scott Martins, who also founded Worlds Apart Productions. That studio was bought by Sony Online in 2006 and Martins, until now, stayed on as its studio head. He and other members of the team helped to develop digital trading card games based on a variety of licenses including Lord of the Rings, Stargate, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies and others. Dire Wolf says it's already working on a new trading card game based on an unnamed MMO title and is also working on "additional social and strategy game projects for 2011."
