Hollywood FX studio Digital Domain to open Florida office; games on their mind

Famed Hollywood visual effects company Digital Domain announced over two years ago that they were interested in getting into game development. Since then there's been no word at all on their game plans but this week Variety reports that the company plans to open up an office in Florida and that games could be one of their projects.

With their Hollywood studio focused on working on movie visual effects projects, Variety reports that the new Flordia studio, located in Port St. Lucie, will work on "videogames, animation and even military simulation graphics." Once again specific projects were not revealed. The new studio is getting millions of dollars in grants from local and state governments and businesses. The studio plans to hire 400 people within four years.

Animal Logic enters into game development

More and more companies in the movie and TV industry are interested in making games. The latest to enter the field is Animal Logic, a CGI development studio based in Australia who have helped to make effects and CGI for movies like The Matrix, Happy Feet, 300 and 28 Weeks Later. Now the company has announced it will launch a Los Angeles office, Animal Logic Interactive, specifically for game development.

The new studio, which plans to make games for both "traditional and emerging platforms" wil be headed up by Giancarlo Mori who previously worked as the VP of Production at Activision. There's no word yet on what kinds of games Animal Logic Interactive will produce
