New Gang Garrison version, team expands to new demakes

The Gang Garrison 2 team, otherwise known as Faucet, has been continually updating their demake of Valve's Team Fortress 2. It's even caught notice of the official Team Fortress 2 team, and apparently they love it. We can't blame them, though, as where Gang Garrison 2 was fun before, it's simply phenomenal now. Killcams, a new gamemode, new abilities for the Healer and Overweight, new server functions, and an overhauled interface greatly improve upon Gang Garrison 2.

Along with this update came the news that Faucet was expanding to do other Valve demakes! Done in the same pixel style, they are remaking Portal (as Gateway), Left 4 Dead (as Rite 2 Live), and Garry's Mod (as Larry's Mod). Much like the original Gang Garrison 2, these demakes are open-source, and if you want to help with graphics, code or level design, just drop by the Gang Garrison forums for more information! You can also play the latest builds of the other Faucet demakes by following the links above.

Welcome to Freeware Friday, a weekly column showcasing excellent games that you can play free of charge!

Valve's Team Fortress 2, while long in coming, was a masterpiece unlike any other multiplayer game on the market at the time. Its continued success and loyal fanbase have prompted the developers to release a slew of patches adding new content to the game, with the latest being the Scout update. However, what if it was a NES game, not a PC game? Well, the result would be Gang Garrison 2. While we have talked about Gang Garrison 2 before on Big Download, it has been continually worked on. A feature-complete release, version 2.0, was released recently, and any fan of action games or multiplayer shooters has got to give it a try.
