Mass Effect action figures release delays upset BioWare

Way back in December 2009, The DC Direct action figure division of DC Comics announced plans to release action figures based on BioWare's Mass Effect sci-fi RPG series. The first series of four figures was supposed to be released in August 2010. However there have been lots of delays since the first announcement with the release date pushed back to February 2011 and now to April 2011.

That isn't making BioWare very happy. In a post on BioWare's message board (since deleted) a BioWare rep states, "We are all, including Treehouse, BioWare, and yourselves extremely frustrated with DC Direct. Their handling of this issue has been extremely unprofessional and disrespectful to fans. Once we get the ME2 Action Figure shipped we will not be working with DC Direct again." Indeed a previously announced second set of Mass Effect figures is no longer listed on DC Direct's web site.

Second set of Batman: Arkham Asylum action figures announced

A few months ago DC Direct announced plans to release a series of action figures based on Batman: Arkham Asylum, the hit super hero action game from developer Rocksteady and publisher Eidos. The first set of four action figures have already been announced and are due out in January 2011 but DC Direct has already revealed plans for a second set of figures from the game.

This second quartet of figures will include a new version of Batman himself (in an "Armored" version of his suit) along with three new Bat-villains: The plant-based seductress Poison Ivy, the oddly named Zsasz and the man who would like to break Batman's back Bane. The second set will be released in February 2011.

More info on Batman Arkham Asylum action figures

A little while ago we alerted you to plans for the release of action figures based on the 2009 action game Batman Arkham Asylum. Today DC Comics gave us our first look at what the six inch tall action figures will look like. As you can see the first set of figures will feature Batman himself, the Joker (with a smaller Scarface figure accessory), Scarecrow and Harley Quinn.

You can expect multiple points of articulation for each figure as well as a display stand. The bad news? The figures won't be released until January 12, 2011 which means you won't be able to buy them before Christmas this year. Pricing has yet to be announced.

Batman Arkham Asylum action figures revealed

How many action figures based on Batman do you think have been released? The answer for some of you might be, "Way too many," and others might say, "Not close to enough." Well we will soon have another set of figures based on the Caped Crusader. The magazine Toyfare (via the Previewsworld web site) has announced they will have the exclusive reveal of the Batman: Arkham Asylum action figures in their June 2010 issue.

The line, from DC Direct, is of course based on the hit Rocksteady-Eidos-Warner Bros. Interactive game from 2009 that will soon be re-released as a Game of the Year version in May. There's not much info on what the action figure line will contain or when they will be available; obviously the magazine issue will be the first place to get the details.

DC Universe Online statues revealed

Toy Fair 2010 is wrapping up in New York City today but the event is still yielding some game-related news. DC Direct has announced plans during Toy Fair to release a series of statues featuring DC Comics characters as they look in the upcoming MMO game DC Universe Online.

The statues are based on the character designs created by legendary comic artist Jim Lee for the game. Figures.com reports that the line will begin in November with Batman and Catwoman statues and in December it will continue with Superman and Green Lantern. There's no word yet on pricing.

StarCraft II action figures coming from DC Unlimited

Toy Fair 2010 is in full swing this week in New York City and DC Comics' DC Unlimited action figure division is busy showing off some of their upcoming releases. The big news, coming from Figures.com, is that DC Direct will be coming out with a series of action figures based on Blizzard's upcoming RTS sequel StarCraft II. While the figure prototypes were shown at Toy Fair, photos of those prototypes were not permitted. The figures shown include a Protoss, a Space Marine and a Terran Soldier. There' no word on when the figures will launch.

DC Direct also announced more game-based action figures during Toy Fair including more additions to their World of Warcraft line (an example is shown at the right) and a second wave of their Mass Effect 2 action figures (the first wave is due in August). The second wave will have four figures: Miranda, Legion, Mordin and Garrus

Dragon Age action figures revealed; coming in September

Last month word got out that there would be Mass Effect action figures coming in August 2010. Now the latest Previews order form has revealed that the company behind those figures, DC Direct, is working on action figures based on BioWare's other big original RPG property Dragon Age.

The order form states the figures will be released this September and will consist of four characters: Duncan, Genlock, Loghain and Morrigan. There's no word yet on what the figures will look like nor what they will cost. Of course, Dragon Age: Origins already has two prose novels released and an upcoming comic book series is in the works.

Mass Effect action figures coming in August

With just three days before Christmas, we know that a lot of you have been thinking, "Boy, we sure would like to get a Commander Shepard action figure under our tree on Christmas morning." Well, that's not going to happen this year. But next year . . . that's a horse of a different color.

This week, DC Comics announced they will be releasing action figures based on BioWare's Mass Effect RPG series. The figures from the DC Direct collectibles division (the same ones that also make the World of Warcraft action figures) and the first set are currently scheduled to ship on August 25, 2010. Unfortunately there are no pictures yet of what they look like but we do know that the first set will include Shepard along with Tali, Thane and Grunt. If you are good in 2010 maybe Santa will slide a set down your chimney.
