More holiday sales pop up for PC owners

Black Friday is now in full throttle here in the US but there are still some interesting PC gaming-related online sales that are going on today. Let's take a look at some of them right now.

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - November 3

Yet another busy day is finally over. Tomorrow Activision reveals its quarterly financial numbers and on Friday we get a reveal of the next Battlefield game. And you never know what else is coming up in the wings:

Capcom offering big weekend sale on PC downloadable games

While Steam is offering sales of Capcom's PC titles during its summer sale, Capcom itself has put several of its PC downloadable game titles on the price chopping block itself on their own online store. In most cases the savings are actually more than the ones that Steam is currently offering.

For this weekend only you can get Street Fighter IV, Dark Void and Neopets Puzzle Adventure for just $14.99 each, which is at least a 50 percent savings from their normal prices. You can also get MotoGP 08 for $9.99 and Dark Void Zero, Flock and Age of Booty are on sale for $4.99 each.

Capcom ends development of 'foreign' games

Clearly, the 73% plunge in profits last year has Capcom feeling a little timid. As a result, the company will stop commissioning games created by Western developers. Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto is quoted by a newspaper as saying, "As a group, the new titles where development was led from abroad didn't do so well."

Capcom's current strategy will focus more on Japanese created games, but may still outsource sequels of existing franchises to Western developers. Last year's major games included Bionic Commando, developed by the now closed GRIN Studios, which sold 700,000 copies instead of the projected 1.5 million. Despite numerous delays to help separate it from the competition, Airtight's high flying shooter Dark Void sold 520,000 copies, falling far short of the 2 million copies Capcom was hoping for.

Dark Void Zero coming to the PC via Steam April 12

A few months ago we reported that Dark Void Zero, the downloadable action game for the Nintendo DS that also serves as a prequel to the main Dark Void game, would be coming to the PC. Today Capcom announced that the PC version would be released via Steam on April 12. The original DS version was meant to be a retro game release as if it was made for a NES 8-bit console system.

The PC port of Dark Void Zero will contain some new features such as Steam achievements and leaderboards. It will also have an exclusive secret ending that can be unlocked. Pricing for the PC port of the game has yet to be announced.

Review: Dark Void

If you've ever been even a little jealous of The Rocketeer, and not just because he ends up with Jennifer Connelly's character at the end, then Dark Void is perfect for you. The game gives players the freedom to fly using a jetpack and switches back and-forth between high-flying dog-fighting combat, on-the ground shooting, and even some action on vertical surfaces like cliff walls. All the while, players get a chance to blast away aliens using advanced sci-fi weaponry and fly around in hijacked flying saucer.

This Week In PC Games: January 18-25

Just one game is due to be released for the PC this week but it's a big one. We are also waiting patiently for BioWare to finally release their promised Return to Ostergar DLC for Dragon Age: Origins. Hopefully that will happen this week, too.

Dark Void - Announced back in October 2007, Airtight Games's first title finally debuts thanks to publisher Capcom. This third person action game features the player traveling through the Bermuda Triangle to an alternate Earth to battle an alien invasion. Oh, and Nikola Tesla is involved. Be prepared for both ground-based combat as well as aerial action via a one-man jetpack.

Dark Void dev diary goes behind the story

In Dark Void, players fly through the Bermuda Triangle and end up in a parallel dimension, ruled by an oppressive alien race, then strap on a jet pack to help the resistance. Flying free and fighting aliens is fun, but the development team at Airtight Games and Capcom offer their point of view and what the game means to them. Continue after the jump for another developer diary that details the kinds of weapons and equipment that will be at the player's disposal. Dark Void releases on January 19th.
