Steam isn't the only PC game download site offering sales deals on main of their titles. GamersGate is also cutting prices on a number of their titles they have in their library of downloadable PC games. In fact two of the game's sales end today. One is Torchlight which can be downloaded for just $9.95. The other is for Borderlands which is on sale for $34.95.

Other games on sale until January 5 include Stormrise for just $11.98, Dark Sector for a mere $9.95, Cryostasis for $6.49 and a Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3/Red Alert 3 Uprising combo for just $24.95.

There's a ton of different third party game engines to license these days: The Unreal Engine, the Source Engine, Gamebryo and others. Now developers Digital Extremes have quietly revealed on their web site that they are providing their own in-house technology, the Evolution Engine, to third party developers.

Digital Extremes, which used Epic's Unreal Engine for most of their previous projects, created their own Evolution Engine for their last major stand alone project, the 2008 third person action game Dark Sector (which was ported to the PC a few months ago). The company's Evolution Engine web site goes into detail about the various features of the technology which can be used for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms. The page does not include a price point for licensing the engine; presumably that info comes after prospective buyers sign an NDA. It should be interesting to see how many clients use Digital Extremes' technology, especially in such a competitive market with tons of other middleware choices.

As they usually do the downloadable game sites GoG.com and GamersGate are offering some price cuts on a few of their items this weekend. Over at GoG.com they have a special bundle promotion on the games Spellforce Platinum and The Guild Gold. You can get both games together for just $13.98, a 30 percent savings. If you own one of the games already you can get the other game for a $3 discount.

Over at Gamersgate they are selling all of the Unreal games for 15 percent off their normal prices. Also on sale this weekend is Sid Meier's Railroads, Sword of the Stars Complete Pack and Dark Sector. All of those titles are currently being sold for 50 percent off their normal GamersGate price.

It's just a few more days until Father's Day and if you want to get your dad some kind of gift, perhaps you will consider getting him a downloadable PC game title. At least that's what GamersGate is hoping for with some special Father's Day weekend deals on their site.

Beginning today and running through Sunday you can download and purchase the recent open world action game The Godfather 2 for $24.99, a 50 percent cut from its normal price. Also Flock and Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War Soulstorm are also 50 percent off their normal GamersGate price through Sunday. Also, from now until June 28 you can download and purchase Dark Sector for just $9.99.

There's a couple of interesting Steam news items today. One is the release of a new version of the Source Engine SDK. As revealed on the official Team Fortress 2 web site, the new version include source files for 10 of Valve's multiplayer shooter's maps. Valve hopes the source files will help map makers learn more about how to build a TF2 level while advanced map makers can get "a variety of examples of how we design and construct levels".

The other bit of Steam news is a 50 percent off sale for the PC version of Dark Sector, the third person action game from Digital Extremes. From now until June 22 the game can be downloaded via Steam for just $9.99.

It's been over a month since Dark Sector was brought over from consoles to the PC, but if you're still on the fence about purchasing the game, despite the 33% off sale on Steam, then this super violent gameplay trailer might help you make a decision.

Valve isn't wasting any time this week. Instead of waiting for the weekend their Steam PC game download service is already offering a couple of deals for customers. One is for the upcoming Eidos WWII action-strategy game Battlestations: Pacific. People who pre-order the game can download the first title in the series, Battlestations: Midway, for free. That's a $19.99 value right there.

Not only that but Valve has yet another sale to talk about. From now until May 11, Steam customers can get the recent PC port of Digital Extremes' action game Dark Sector for $13.33. That's a 33 percent savings off its already low price of $19.99.

The last full week in March brings a number of major PC retail and downloadable titles down the pike along with a big downloadable expansion:
Stormrise - The Creative Assembly releases this original sci-fi RTS game for publisher Sega featuring battles on a future Earth between technological and biological-themed factions. If you just have Windows XP and DirectX9 installed, you can ignore this game; it's one of the very few that's a Windows Vista-DirectX10 exclusive.

As we promised they would on Wednesday, Aspyr Media has now issued the official press release annoucing they will be publishing the PC port of Dark Sector, the 2008 released console action game from developer Digital Extremes. The game itself is apparently ready to go as Aspyr is aiming for a March 23 release date for the game.

This sounds like it will be a fairly vanilla port of a console game with no real new content added for the PC version. Aspry did say the game will feature "improved graphics and a streamlined interface that allows for easy mouse and keyboard control." The actual port of the game was handled by Russian based Noviy Disk.

We hinted about this news a few weeks ago and now we can finally reveal what we have actually known for some time. Digital Extremes' 2008 console third person action game Dark Sector will indeed have its PC port released in the US via Aspyr Media.

The presence of the PC port was first leaked out earlier this year and was thought af first to be a European only release. However Aspyr Media has let us reveal that the game is indeed coming to US shores and will ship to stores on March 23. You can expect more info on the game when Aspyr makes it official with its press release on Thursday.
