Download: Blood Bowl Dark Elves Add-On Patch and Trailer

After reaching the top of the sales charts in the UK, Blood Bowl is now coming to North America. This free patch adds on a ninth all-new faction to the game existing game: the dreaded Dark Elves. The trailer shown above shows these devious players in action. Be aware that his patch is for the original version purchased directly from the official website, and not the one that's releasing on Steam next week, which already includes the Dark Elves.

"Blood Bowl, the imaginary forerunner of football, is an ultra violent team sport set in the Warhammer fantasy universe. It lets players compose a team of Orcs, Elves, Humans, Dwarves and many other fantasy creatures before jumping into the bloodiest arenas. The sport game is both strategic and violent. It requires tactics, a certain amount of game-sense and a lot of self-confidence."

Blood Bowl coming to Steam on Thanksgiving

While the fantasy-themed sports-strategy game Blood Bowl has been available via download for US gamers since it's official release last June, we suspect not a lot of folks knew that they could grab this unusual mix of genres from developer Cyanide Studio. That may change, however, with the announcement today that the game will be made available for download on Thanksgiving (appropriate for a game based loosely on American football) via the much higher profile Steam service

The Steam version will include all of the content of the previous edition and will add the new Dark Elves faction to the game's eight other playable sides (owners of the previous version can download a free update that adds the new faction). Steam is also offering a 10 percent pre-order discount to the game before it goes live. If you are looking for a very different game experience, Blood Bowl might be up your alley.

Blood Bowl to add new team for free via download

The Games Workshop based fantasy-themed sports-strategy game Blood Bowl has apparently become a big hit in retail store in Europe. So much so that the development team at Cyanide Studio has decided to add a new team to the game, the Dark Elves.

According to a note on the game's official web site the new team will be added into the main game as a free download sometime in November. The Dark Elves join the eight other teams in the game and will have their own star player, animation and even their own cheerleaders. In addition the full game will be re-released in Europe via download and in retail stores with the new Dark Elves team includes. Sadly, the US market is still digital download only with no retail release.

World of Battles enters open beta

Several months after the game was first announced, the fantasy MMO RTS title World of Battles is now ready to let everyone try out the game. Publisher Focus Home Interactive has announced that the open beta for the game is underway with players able to sign up at the World of Battles web site.

Developed by Cyanide Studio (the team behind the recently released Blood Bowl) the game features nine different factions. Players can recruit, train and customize their army's units and then put them to work in the real time strategy mode and even team up with other players in massive guild-based battles. You can download the open beta client for the game right here at Big Download.

Blood Bowl a big hit in Europe but no US retail release yet

A few days ago we reported that the fantasy strategy-sports game Blood Bowl from developer Cyanide Studio was available via digital download for US owners. However the game has already been made available for sale in retail stores on Germany, France and Spain. According to publisher Focus Home Interactive the game has hit the number 4 spot in PC game sales in Germany while in France it secured the number 4 position in the all formats sales list.

Focus Home Interactive announced today that Blood Bowl will be making its UK retail debut sometime in September. However, there's still no word on when the game will be made available in US retail stores. Again, you can purchase and download the full game via the official Blood Bowl web site.

Interview: Focus Home Interactive talks about Blood Bowl

Forget those tame NFL football games. For the upcoming adaptation of Games Workshop's Blood Bowl table top game franchise, developer Cyanide Studio is making this fantasy sports game brutal. It's likely you haven't played a sports game where Orcs are on the field or magic can influence a match.

Cyanide's version of Blood Bowl is due out in the first quarter of 2009 and today Big Download has a chat with Axel Delafon, the International Product Manager for the game's publisher Focus Home Interactive. He gives us the skinny on what kind of game Blood Bowl is supposed to be, whether you can "cheat" in order to win, and more.

New Blood Bowl screenshots scare even the NFL

The American pro football season is about to begin in a couple of weeks but the NFL has nothing on the Blood Bowl, the fantasy sports-strategy game based on the Games Workshop war game. Cyanide Studios is working on the PC game adaptation and for Games Convention they sent out some new screenshots showing off the athletes in action.

Blood Bowl is basically a turn based strategy game where an American football-like game has been turned into a battlefield with orcs, dwarves and other fantasy creatures put on helmets, get their pads together and use spells, extra buffs and more to get to the goal line. Cyanide plans to release the game in the first quarter of 2009.
