Crysis Live? That's the plan . . .

So you have enjoyed playing Crytek's hit first person shooter Crysis on your PC. But how do you feel about playing the game in the real world. An upcoming UK-based gaming event called Gamecity Squared says they plan to do just that with the help of Crytek's UK development studio (formerly Free Radical Design).

On October 29-30, an area in Nottingham, UK will supposedly be transformed into "real-life tropical jungle, complete with exotic flora and fauna." Players in Crysis Live will reportedly don the game's famous Nanosuit to fight off enemies in this real life event and even use the Nanosuit's invisible cloak. We are not sure how they plan to pull this off but it should be interesting to see how the organizers accomplish this event.

Beginning on Friday, anyone will be able to play the shooter online for free until the next Friday, September 4. You can still play the full game offline on a LAN network for free anytime you want.

Crysis 2 viral web site shows off "Nanosuit 2"

Forget that silly "Cash for Clunkers" program that the government is trying to push down our throats. What you need isn't a new gas car but your own personal nanosuit. Luckily the folks at Crynet Systems have your back as they have just launched a new web site introducing their new "Nanosuit 2"

Yes you can check out the specs for the next version of the true "suit that makes the man". Features like a coltan-titanium exoskelton, nanocircurity, an ionic electroactive polymer-based liquid armor and more are standard on the Nanosuit 2. The Crynet Systems web site has a full PDF broshure, videos and more info for all of your Nanosuit 2 need.

(Ok, it's just a viral site for Crytek's upcoming FPS Crysis 2 but it is pretty cool).

Crytek CEO: We will leave Germany if government bans action games

Germany already has a fairly strict policy on regulating the sales of games with some violent content. However there has been increasing pressure from the government in that country to ban all games with violent content. While there a grass roots effort by gamers in that country to make the government reconsider, the threat is enough that one major German-based developer is saying they may pull stakes and move out.

According to a statement at German-based web site PCGames.de, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli (and yes that's him above this post making like a Law and Order: SVU suspect) states, "If the German creative community can't effectively participate in one of the most important cultural mediums of our future, we will be forced to relocate to other countries." Crytek is of course the creator of the original Far Cry and Crysis first person shooter titles (with Crysis 2 already announced) as well as the CryEngine game development software that's used by third party developers. Crytek already has several studios outside of their home of Germany so moving their headquarters to another location is not as big of a deal as it might be normally.

E3 2009: Crysis 2 announced

In the "Not a huge shock" category. Electronic Arts has announced that it has signed a new deal with Crytek to publish Crysis 2, the next game in their sci-fi shooter series. EA published the original Crysis in 2007 for the PC and a second game, Crysis Warhead, was release for the PC in 2008.

Little else is know about Crysis 2 other than it will be release on consoles as well as the PC and that it will be the first game to use Crytek's CryEngine 3 technology. There is no word of a release date nor if the game will continue the story left behind at the end of the original Crysis.

Hardware Review: iBuypower Paladin F870-SB

Estimated MSRP: $1,949

For those who don't recognize the system, Big Download gave away a computer very similar to this one in contest a few months ago. So, we couldn't help trying out one of these monster systems for ourselves. iBuypower custom builds high-powered gaming computers, and the Paladin F870-SB has everything top-of-the-line technology has to offer. For starters, they system features an Intel Core i7-940 2.9GHz Quad Core processor along with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 video card. Other features include a whopping 6 GB of RAM, a Blu-ray/HD DVD drive in addition to the standard DVD read/write drive and multicard reader, running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It's all topped off with a Sceptre 20.1" monitor, an NZXT "Avatar" gaming mouse, and a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard. Altogether, this monster has power and features to spare, and we threw a bunch of games at it to see how it all stacks up.

Crytek to launch CryEngine 3 at GDC

In a bit of a surprise annnouncement, Crytek has revealed that it plans to demo the next generation version of its CryEngine game graphics technology at the Game Developers Conference later this month. CryEngine 3 is the first game engine from Crytek that is not just for PC games but for "console, online, MMO and Next-Gen game development."

Crytek developed the first generation CryEngine to use for their 2004 first person shooter Far Cry. CryEngine 2 made its debut in 2007 with the release of Crysis and was used again in 2008 for Crysis Warhead. Both engines have been licensed by a number of different game developers in the past. Crytek states it will be giving public demos of CryEngine 3 during GDC along with holding meeting with developers who are interested in licensing the game engine.

Rumor: Crytek to acquire Free Radical?

After weeks of speculation, at least two separete stories on the Interweb have posted up word that UK developer Free Radical Design has found itself a buyer. 1Up.com reports that Free Radical's scriptwriter Rob Yescombe has told them it's German-based Crytek (the original Far Cry, Crysis and Crysis Warhead) has bought the company. Our sister site Joystiq has also heard the same thing from an anonymous source.

If true (and we expect to hear something official tomorrow) this move would represent only the latest expansion for Crytek. Besides their home office in Frankfurt, they have launched other development studios in the past two years in Kiev, Ukraine, Seoul, South Korea and Budapest, Hungary. They also purchased the former Black Sea Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria and renamed it Crytek Black Sea
